  1. Don't quite understand the minor league portion of this draft. Why would'n't someone take Olivar or Rosario from the Twins during this portion of the draft since there are no restrictions as far as what level they would have to play at.
  2. With the market for starting pitching and the extremely high salaries they're getting in free agency, I think maybe Paddack at 7.5M is a bargain. He's had another whole offseason to recoup and get stronger. I think he's worth keeping for now but if they do decide to trade him he should be worth a pretty decent package. I wouldn't just give him up for a salary dump.
  3. The long and short of all this boils down to trying to compete with a weiner budget against those eating the ribeyes. Yeah, we can make it look good in our own division (occasionally) but we're not competing with the big spenders consistantly. Until the Pohlads or whoever buys the team decides to spend some of their billions on their baseball hobby, we are just pretending to make some kind of difference. How's that for pessimism for you?
  4. Chances are that most if not all the teams ahead of us will just pass on the rule 5 option. Not saying that we should pick someone, but if they do, I doubt it would be their 12th choice.
  5. Ryan and Ober are already good starting pitchers. Whose to say they won't get even better? I'm not seeing a possible path to getting better by trading either one. Paddack? Ok. Lopez? No.
  6. It's not often that a team can go through a full season with two catchers and both staying healthy. The Twins have done it for two years in a row. Can that last? I wouldn't be against keeping both for 2025 for the stability. But sooner or later they are going to have to come up with some decent catching prospects or pay for a free agent catcher again. My preference would be to try to trade for Teel(no idea what it would take). IMO Camargo is AAA for emergency callup only. Time to start drafting and developing young catchers. We drafted a couple last year. Do the Twins feel they will someday be MLB caliber. I am also on the list of people who think playing both Jeffers and Vasquez at the same time with one being DH is poor managing. Neither should be DHing, especially Vasquez. By eating Vaszuez's salary for one more year at least gives us an acceptable catching tandem for 2025 and one more year to figure something else out. But upgrading for 2025 would be optimal if it's Vasquez they can trade. The paltry self-imposed salary is the biggest problem. Maybe we could get a loan from the Dodgers with deferred payments.
  7. I know I'm in the minority here, but I really like Canha. Consumate professional, above average overall player(IMHO). I don't know what the right price is but I think 4M and a 4M team option for 26. Also, I doubt he will last till spring training and I think he may be the top end of the Twins free agent possibilities. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
  8. LOL, no seriously! LOL. This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Every time Manfred opens his mouth the baseball world gets dumber. How is this guy the commissioner of MLB? Oh, wait, this is the way this whole country is going. The world and this country is getting dumber by the day. Are there any real baseball people still out there? It's getting doubtful. Sheeesh.
  9. I love the Walker Jenkins hype. I totally believe he will be a star player for the Twins. It's fun to predict superstar stats on a young player with great athleticism. But maybe we should slow the roll just a little. He is a 19 year old kid. Don't put so much pressure on him. Let him play his way through the minors and prove himself in the majors. I fully expect him to be a very good to excellent Twin, but we may be setting ourselves up to be disappointed. Someone said his floor would be Max Kepler. If that were to be the outcome, I would be satisfied. Max contributed fairly and I expect Jenkins to be even better but I think that most here would not be satisfied. I remember a lot of hype for Gordon and Kirilloff which now turns out to be wounds. Yeah, I'm pulling for Jenkins but, let's let the kid play.
  10. Unless blown away, which I doubt, I wouldn't trade any of these low cost young pitchers. If and that's a big if, they are going to trade away any starting pitcher I would suggest Paddack. Over the years we have had too many injury prone starting pitchers and although Paddack has shown some upside he still looks like a 4 or 5 starter. He would also give us a little salary relief. I like our young starters and would love to see them get a fair shot in the Twins rotation.
  11. Speed is fun, right? But in my opinion we need to change our approach on hitting entirely. Our biggest problem in 24, to me, was the inability to score runners from scoring position with less than two outs. How many times did we have runners on third with no outs and didn't score? That's not just bad luck, it's a poor approach and poor coaching. Also, what is the point of having 4 minor league teams if you can't seem to advance these players except for a few who really stand out. Draft well, teach well and promote, especially with a limited budget. Optimally, there should be two or three rookies that contribute to the team every year. That's on the front office. We need top notch coaching to teach in every minor league team. That's also on the front office. Or, you need big bucks to buy top free agents. And that's certainly not the Twins way. Draft your speed and hit tools. And teach them to contribute depending on situations. We always seem to have high hopes for several minor leaguers and they rarely pan out. Yes, we have numerous home grown players on the roster but they seem to be missing some of the basics of situational baseball. Especially scoring runners from second and third base. This is where "I believe" we need to concentrate our efforts.
  12. Very interesting conversation. But, realistically this is all just speculation. I don't think any of us really understand the workings of billionaire corporations like we pretend to think we do. Personally I think I'll wait to see what happens and I will continue to support the Twins, but I do enjoy reading everyones opinions whether or not I think anyone knows what they are talking about.
  13. Thanks, I would be all over the MLB.tv package if this were the case even though my cable bill will not be reduced. But at this point, I pay over $200/month for my cable plus internet which will be kept. So adding "approximately $139/year which comes to about $11.50/month for all the baseball I can digest(which is alot) would be a great deal for me. I am retired with health issues, so I watch alot of tv.
  14. So please correct me if I'm wrong but, If I subscribe to Twins.tv I get just Twins games for $99 a year. I can handle that. But if I sign up for MLB.tv I get all mlb games being broadcast including the Twins with no blackouts, plus MiLB.tv with no blackouts for $139 per year. This would be my choice if this is correct. Anybody know if this is correct?
  15. Acknowleging all the arguments for third time through the order, lefty vs. lefty, inexperience and all the other examples of what is happening throuout the league and with the Twins specifically there is just one thing that seems to bother me. And that is that everything Rocco does makes me want to puke. How bout in this situation, we offer the Red Sox Margot to pinch hit for Duran. LOL. C'mon, please get rid of Rocco. It doesn't matter what Rocco does, it always feels wrong. I would bet that TK, Gardy, Molly or any other "real" baseball man gets that same gut wrenching feeling about Rocco that I get. Please please please do the fans a favor and get rid of Rocco and the hitting coaches can go with him.
  16. Computers, obviously give us a totally different and much easier and more in depth way to gather information. This information is extremely valuable. But the feel for the game should never go away completely. If you want to manage strictly by using computer analytics, then go play video games. If you want to manage baseball, you need to know your players capabilities on a deeper level than just the ones and the zeros. Sure, you can't get away from the technology completely, but being able to use it wisely is a whole nother level. This, in my opinion is where Rocco fails. And because of the way information is gathered today, I don't see any way to compare managers past and present. Oh, and just so you know, I am not a Rocco fan.
  17. When I have to say Julien, it feels like acid reflux.
  18. We signed Gallo! We signed Margot! Kepler is better than both. I would love to see us sign him as a fourth outfielder and pinch hitter for 2yr- 5M per. Would he go for that? Would we? Would the Pohlads? Max is class. And this may be just sentimental. In any case, best of luck to Max, whatever you do!
  19. I'm probably in the great minority here, but I think Julien is another candidate to be traded in the off-season. Kirilloff and Julien both seem to be in need of a change of venue. Juliens' strikeouts are becoming harder and harder to take, and we have good young middle infielders more than ready to take over those spots. Only question is, can we get anything for them. Also, after a slow start, Santana has performed admirably and I wouldn't be upset if they signed him for his year 39 season. Don't think that will happen though due to the Twins self-imposed money crunch.
  20. I first said "Zebby Mathews = Roger Clemens" I then said "Zebby Mathews = Dwight Gooden". These are just jokes my friend. Because actually, Zebby Mathews = Jack Morris. No, I'm sorry. Zebby Mathews = Nolan Ryan. Good night.
