  1. I'm not sure that you can use these statistics to make an argument to ignore certain results--you don't know which pitches were measured inaccurately by ABS in the moment. Also, the accuracy of ABS could go either direction--a pitch that an umpire called a ball but ABS called a strike by 0.25 inches might have been inaccurately measured by ABS by 0.4 inches, but the inaccuracy could have been either direction--even more a strike 0.65 inches or maybe a ball by 0.15 inches, so I don't know it works from that perspective either.
  2. Polanco has 12 HR this year, .759 OPS and a 13.4% strikeout rate...would be about our 2nd best hitter.
  3. my favorite stat...batters have the fewest strikeouts of all teams.
  4. by process of elimination, the top 5 are Lewis, Lee, Duran, Jenkins and Rodriguez? No Buxton or Jax in the top 20? Castro has less value than Martin (maybe because of team control)?
  5. sounds like they moved him to left field for a few batters. No idea why, but why not?
  6. Has anyone else noticed the Brooks Lee highlight was from last September? He's only played 5 FCL games this year so far. And at St. Paul last year he batted .237.
  7. 20 billion pennies. 2 billion dimes 2 million Benjamins
  8. There wasn't a lot out there at the trade deadline this year. We would have had to overpay for arms that may not be materially better than the ones we have. Or they could be worse. they wouldn't have made a material difference in our post-season chances. We have too many holes in our flawed team. the evaluations of the trades last year at the time of the trade were overly optimistic. We overpaid for arms that were not better than the ones we had. You (we) all were trying to make ourselves feel good about our post-season chances (though I'll remind myself I hated the Mahle trade from day one) they wouldn't have made a material difference in our post-season chances. We have too many holes in our flawed team. the front office has had a bunch of opportunities to upgrade the bullpen in the off season and throughout the year. They've failed at pretty much every turn--maybe because this year they made at least 3, maybe 4 free agent hitter acquisitions that were very expensive for the mediocre to horrible results.
  9. Right now the Twins have one (1) qualified batter. He's not a leading candidate to win the batting crown, but he is a league leader in one category.
  10. I think he's saying Matrin'll get on base somewhat more than Castro, but steal fewer bases (including home less), and get fewer xbh resulting in a terrible OPS; and not really be a hitter that generates runs any better than Castro does. For the season, Martin is like one of the weakest offensive players at St. Paul right now statistically and well below league average. Maybe he's now healthy and has turned things around, but this whole thing seems like wishful thinking.
  11. How's this...of the 9 batters playing today, Buxton has the 3rd highest OPS. Yuck, what a lineup.
  12. Have no idea about the psychological aspects, but I'm wondering for some guys it allows them to continue to work on a new pitch in the minors against live competition, but in lower leverage situations? Or they learn something about approach at the plate. Julien seemed to get better each time he got recalled.
  13. Kaat get hurt sliding into 2nd base. Broke his hand.
  14. very few
  15. I looked at that horrible first inning at Wichita. First three batters went infield single x2 and a ground ball force out before Donato really started getting clocked. Total of 7 singles and two doubles off Donato--but no walks 😀. A throwing error, a fielding error, two more infield singles before he left with two outs. Grace came in for the last out and threw a wild pitch on a walk and had a throwing error on a pickoff to let the next 2 runs in.
  16. Stacking up the lefties worked well. Twins LH batters against their starter went 7-11 with 2HR 1 3B 1 2B and 4 walks. .637 BA .733 OBP 1.454 /2.187
  17. So you're saying the Twins traded away a future all-star for a future all-star, but traded that future all-star for less than nothing.. Yep thats a bad trade. In 2013, the following ex-Twins were all-stars: David Ortiz, JJ Hardy, Torii Hunter, Joe Nathan, Grant Balfour, Carlos Gomez, Jesse Crain, and Michael Cuddyer. Yikes.
  18. No.
  19. Sad that we have so many good candidates: 1) Correa 2) Miranda 3) Kepler 4) Gordon 5) Mahle HM) Lopez, Lopez, Buxton, Vasquez, Larnach
  20. and Lamont Wade Jr. for Shaun Anderson 2/4/2021. That Raley/Wade/Rooker outfield that could have been.
  21. Didn't like this trade from the time it was made. Mahle, even if not injured, was not going to help avoid last year's meltdown. I get that the FO felt the need to try something-anything-to make the playoffs; in this case that should have ignored that feeling.
  22. Cano is having himself a year, so far. 8.2 of no-hit ball
