With Larnach tendered where does that leave Roden, Gonzalez, Rodriguez? If he's not traded he will play. We know that much.

I would not. Vazquez was overpaid for 3 years as a Twin, and that's the responsibility of Falvey. But he was far better than even in a downturn than Jackson has proven to be. Vazquez has proven that he can catch in the ML on a rotating basis, Jackson has not. I'm not advocating the return of Christian nor disappointed that his tenure is over. But replacing Vazquez with Jackson made this team even worse. Now we get to watch Gasper and Jackson share the backup C role while they hit .125. Not good. Everybody knows that a guy getting paid 1.8mil for the Twins will stay and will play no matter how poorly the results are.
-
This is how I feel as well. Trading Eeles for Jackson is a ho hum shrug your shoulders and get on with the day kind of trade. But we all know that Jackson was just acquired to be one of the 26 guys on the 2026 Twins. This doesn't improve your team. We just put another guy on the team who's "subpar."
-
I'm happy for Eeles too. I wish him well. The trade of Jackson for Eeles looks like a fair enough trade when you look at it as a 1 for 1 swap. Not sure why they'd pay Jackson 1.8 mil though when Rortvedt for example could be had for minimum. Whatever, I'm sure they'll make a cut somewhere to make it up. But when you look at the trade deeper, as in Jackson for Vazquez, Jackson replacing Vazquez. The team that finished 2025 just got worse. I know Vazquez gets zero love on this site but he made the Twins a better team than Jackson at this point.

If you intend to truly compete in 2026 you don't trade either one. But competing in 2026 will call for some major $$$$ to be spent at C, 1B and in the Pen. You can't get around it. If truly competing in 2026 is not your goal then Ryan should absolutely be traded. His value is at it's peak. Lopez should be kept until at least June in the hopes to regain some of his 2025 lost value. imo Ober should also be kept to see if he can rebound.

I like Culpepper too and I hope they don't lose him. But I'm guessing that they are gambling that the teams that would draft a rule 5 are viewing CJ's question marks and will select guys like you pointed out instead. I would have preferred a non gamble and cut chase with a Gasper or Kreidler or Kiersey instead. Which we'll end up doing if we do select someone anyway. I like Pallette the most of these prospects.

Yes we should make a selection in the rule5. It will cost $50,000 to get a close look at a prospect. It would be dumb not to. And if we lose one of a dozen players currently on the 40 man who cares? Which the loss of that player isn't a given either. I'm wondering about C and 1B also of who might be available.

I'd take Lowe. Betting there is still a good amount of fuel left in the tank. He'd also be useful in sharing pointers with other guys on the roster in playing 1B, he could help in development. I'd go with a two year deal with the second the club holding an option with a buyout. I concur with Nick, his poor year is still better than Clemens best. But in my realistic view we won't attempt to sign anyone who could be helpful until February, if then, when prices drop out of desperation.

Guys taken off of the 40 man have to clear waivers. That's my guess as to why guys Like Kiersey, Gasper, McCusker are still on the 40 man. They must believe that these guys would be claimed if exposed to waivers. I know most of us are saying who cares? What I'm interested in is who we will select in the rule 5 draft. Picking so high up I'm assuming that we will pick someone. Hopefully a possible C or 1B that someone else didn't have room for.

If Clemens and Julien will be manning 1B in 2026 as Falvey alluded to is the case, what a bonehead. We have a non competitive team that we make into worse. Lets see what we have in the organization. Clemens is not a starter and Julien is awful. Start with Sabato in ST and see if he has anything to offer. Give other players we have a 1B glove and see if they can grow into the role. Clemens and Julien and Gasper as the 1B is taking a step back for a rebuild. It's a step back if you're intent was to actually compete as well. It's a step back no matter what point your team is at.

I have great confidence in Lewis. We need to stay with him. I do know that he is a game changer, not many guys you can say that about, but he is one. Will he once again be the player he was in 2023? I don't know, no one does for sure. But we need to see this through all of the way. What is apparent is that Lewis is another example of the destructiveness of our front office on display.
-
Yep, all too often we're told how great this #5 or this #7 prospect is and he never is cuz he never gets a shot. Instead we'll sign some 34 y/o washed up player or trade for a Margot. I expect more of the same this time too. It's just a matter of time before Falvey starts reeling in his big late off season catches. As Roger Miller used to sing, "you can't rollerskate in a buffalo herd." But I can see Falvey strapping his wheels on as I type.

If they intended to raise payroll back to last years level and spend 40mil on this years team it would seem beneficial to disclose this for marketing sake. So if they don't raise payroll back to that level to field a better team it makes zero sense to hold onto Ryan and Lopez. Zero. Even with improved play from Lewis, Lee, Wallner and a few others we have a 70 win team. This team has played since the 2024 AS break last place baseball. It's not a good team. So if we get the improvement from some guys and sign a bunch of stopgaps we still only have a team that is going to win 75 games or so at best. So to get those extra 10 wins or so we throw away the value of Ryan and Lopez. We lose the potential of the guys that we could acquire who would help this team actually be a contender from 2028-2035. Plus by signing stopgaps we lose seeing the potential of the players we already have in the system who could get a full audition in 2026. They get mired in St.Paul for another season and quickly just disappear. It's a lose lose choice just for a few extra wins in 2026. Take the hit. Look, I don't like losing Ryan or Lopez either. But I hope Falvey makes the right choice for the long-term benefit of the franchise. Lots of teams looking for pitching right now. We'll still have Richardson, Zebby, Abel and Bradley and others that we already have and acquire.
-
Realisticly none of these guys aside from Abel and Gonzalez maybe ready for 2026. But please lets find out what we actually have on the roster now and in the milb. No to stopgap veterans. We have veterans to lead and help already. We have a very promising wave coming. But lets find out what we have in Martin, Roden, Lee, etc first. Let them play. Take the hit in 2026.

The reality is some of the guys you mentioned may not be worth a hill of beans when all is said and done. Others may well in fact become very good. We don't know. The other reality is when the cycle comes around again these guys also will become part of trade talk. We can't afford to squander the full value of players so we can win 75 games because we want to be competitive every single season. We can't afford to be attached to mediocre results either. At 75-80 wins you were probably considered competitive until early to mid August. We need to finish what we started here. Call this what you want. Rebuild, retool, reshuffle. But it needs to be followed all the way through. The way I see the 2026 team is we could spend 35-40mil and plug some holes and we're still only a 75-80 win team. But we just lost a great deal of the value that Ryan, Lopez, etc possibly hold. The last thing that I want is to be the LA Angels of the last decade. Never really bad. But far from actually good.

2019 the year of the juiced ball. Bomba. Was a great season. But unfortunately the organization totally bought into it. They misled themselves into believing it could be sustained and developed their philosophy after 2019. They used 2019 to set their drafting and development philosophy. It's something we are still paying for. Instead of developing and drafting a baseball team they tried to draft and develop a repeat of Bomba. This to me sums up the failure of Falvey. Rocco was a casualty inevitably of Bomba and the philosophy of Falvey.

Thanks for the extra info. Based on it, no to Caratini. Not with the budget restraints of the team and the glaring needs elsewhere. Not that we don't need a backup C......
