    I appreciate you response and thoughts bro. Truly do. Your second to last sentence though strikes at me a bit. I believe it is true, but just rubs me. "But when you intend to lose you don't care." This. This was a horse crap way to reward the fans of your team who had pre bought tickets, and all other fans of the team, to watch your team in 2025. Trying to lose, and I think that it would be unanimous agreement that this was the case. And they're still not "going big" as they'd like the remaining gullible to believe. The 16mil they have spent thus far in FA this off season is throwing money away imo, though I suppose they'll manage to get a couple more borderline prospects for it later on so not a total waste.

    Right now how the team stands? Yeah I would. This team played at a pace of a 55 win team the last half of 2025. What have they done to change that? Added some fringe players, Orze, Jackson, Kreidler, Waggaman, etc. No gains here. Added Bell, Caratini and now Rogers. These guys produced 1.7 WAR in 2025. At 60 I'm giving them more. Bell and Caratini their added offense improve us. Now, their defense is actually worse. But I'll stand by 60 for the moment and give them some improvement. I'm willing to evaluate piece by piece what they do between now and opening day but as of yet I call it like I see it.

    Ignoring Detroit too. And KC. It's almost like the Twins only have to play themselves, and I'm not sure if they did if there'd even be a winner.

    Until his final 24IP last year he was just plain awful. I too hope he's turned a corner based on those 24 but I still consider the jury to be out.

    Exactly. I like signing Rogers but this is still a very bad team. A 60 win team until they prove otherwise. Nothing to lose signing Rogers for 2mil, but he's right at the head of the line for a July trade. The roster construction is still very bad. The offense bad. The defense bad. Rogers fills a whole in the BP but it's still not a position of strength.

    I'm a pay closer attention to the Pirates this season, least they've somewhat tried to put together a better team for 2026. Besides I'm still a fan of them from 1979 and the We Are Family bunch. Sad how 30-40 years of bad ownership turned them into laughingstock.

    I'm not going to get worked up on whether it's Gray, Brujan, Kreidler, Gasper, Fitzgerald, etc etc. They all suck. And whether one sucks 0.25% less than the next guy or the previous guy it really doesn't matter, they still suck. The problem is when these sucky players start getting sizable chunks of playing time and that's what we tend to see here.

    I think Buxton has some value. But with the NTC and his age and injury history it's not as high as some would like to think it is. I think Jeffers has value, but for one season only also not extreme. Lewis as well, but at a low point. Lastly Wallner, but also diminished at this point. Keaschell might be the highest of trade value after Ryan. But the cupboard is meager pickings. Nobody's giving up much of anything for Larnach, Martin, Lee, Julien, Sands, etc.

    And they've done nothing to figure it out. As big of question too is what has been done to shore up the defense? Nothing. Bell and Caratinni actually made the D worse. The hitting has been marginally improved with Bell and Caratini. They have spent the winter improving the team from a 55 win team to a 57 win one. While the top assets go down in value. When Tom talked about competing he really meant it. We're likely to finish 8 games behind CWS now instead of 10 GB.

    I don't get the obsession with having league average or below even, bats being used at 1B or DH. Have our expectations sunk that low? I love that we have Jeffers and his bat at C. But now I hear his name being thrown around for 1B even. He's played 5 innings in his entire professional career at 1B. He doesn't have a DH bat, or 1B. Caratini, I'm great with his bat playing at C. He doesn't have a DH or 1B bat however. And his glove work at 1B has been underwhelming to say the least. Now as you stated we have 15mil tied up at C. And that's where they should play. Many howl at the mention of Trevor Larnach DHing. But then promote Jeffers and Caratini for the at bats. Very poor use of roster spots happening here.

    This is actually a difficult one to call. Safest bet is Jackson gets traded in ST. But they should be looking to get something for him because they did give up something even if Eeles wasn't highly regarded. But making 1.35 and with his poor hitting record Jackson is likely to bring little. With Caratini not actually being a C who is going to be a primary receiver would they deal Jeffers? I'm really not sure. But imo carrying all three of these guys opening day is a bad idea if it happens. Neither Jeffers or Caratini carries a 1B or DH bat. They just don't. Playing either or both there is what a 60 win team does, not a contender.

    It's tough to pull the wool over anyone's eyes here Greg. After all the Pohlad's have been trying to do that to us for years now.

    Right now as of today the roster construction of this team is just plain awful. Their biggest signing of Bell is a below average hitting DH. He shouldn't be playing 1B because of D and he's a below average hitting 1B. Now they are in line to be carrying 3 C's. Honestly none of them should be seeing significant time elsewhere because their bats also become below average at other positions, though one could say not on this team. Hopefully some other moves will be coming up as this team right now looks brutal in how it's put together. I'm still fine with Caratini, if some other moves are still to follow.

    They also signed Jason Castro way back. So if the C wasn't an Astro we can't sign him.

    I too still like the signing. But the team now has 14.5mil tied up in the C position. Honestly that's too much for a team with budget constraints. So I also look for a Jeffers trade, I conjecture in the next 4 weeks as having a C work with the pitchers throughout all of ST is preferred. But where I don't like the signing is if all 3 are kept meaning Jackson is taking a badly needed roster spot to be an emergency C and if either Jeffers or Caratini is plugged into the DH or 1B role with any regularity beyond a rare game here and there. No one if they are being honest about it can support playing league average hitters at 1B or DH is a good idea. If having all 3 around for 2026 does end up being the plan its a horrible one imo.

    As a C Caratini is a good bat. His bat shouldn't be played at either DH or 1B imo,very poor bat for either position. Carrying 3 C's is very poor roster management. Either Jeffers or Jackson needs to be traded or you just stash Jackson at AAA and have him as expensive insurance.

    This team should cause no one to have a wet dream that's for sure. What you suggest as for trading Jeffers I would not object to at all. But trading Jeffers you at least get some value over him walking for nothing. Caratini is a step backwards from Ryan but at least it's not falling off the end of the earth at this point.

    Or Caratini plays 1B as well. Which is also not good. He's a good hitter as a C but not at all as DH or 1B. I still like the signing but until we see what else shakes out the roster construction of this team is still awful imo.

    Also wonder who gets the boot off of the roster. The newly acquired Vidal Brujan? Kriedler? Julien? Or one of Jeffers or Jackson traded?

    I can actually support this acquisition I think. On the negative side he has only shared the C role in a 50/50 measure twice in his career, 21 and 22. And when he carried the heavier burden his hitting was greatly diminished. But I like the signing considering our catching pipeline. Does make me wonder about having 3 C's on ML contracts. Jeffers, Jackson and now Caratini. Would almost seem to open the door of trading one of Jackson or Jeffers maybe.

    100%. I'd be making deals now if it was me. But what do I know, I'm not the genius Falvey or tough talking Tom.

    These guys could still be traded anytime. ST and early season injuries happen. It also could be that better deals could come sooner depending on how the markets go for Tucker, Bichette, Framber and Bellenger go. The losers of those sweepstakes may be more willing to offer a better package when the dust all settles.
