  1. I see Gibson as either he is extended at somewhere around a 3/30-35 or he moves on. I don't see a QO in his future. QO is around 18 mil. He is set to make 8.125 in 2019, so I don't see why the team would QO him for 18mil unless he won 20 games and was a Cy finalist, maybe. But if he was the 2018 Gibson, no QO.
  2. For a guy who might be an AS 2B it would be a very good deal.
  3. But its great to wrap up Polanco longterm. And now Kepler. This is what should be happening. No way are we ever going to contend if the revolving door of the past isn't slammed shut. Lets sink or swim with these guys. Get Berrios down too and a couple of Rosario's FA years while we are at it. Don't stop there either, Gibson, Buxton and Sano too.
  4. Having Polanco signed long term can also make him a more valuable trade chip down the line too. Also you can't have too many good players and I for one still believe that Gordon is a good player and will be a good player in the future. We are now discarding Nick b/c of a bad stretch in AAA yet we herald Kiriloff as the next Votto b/c of one great season in A ball. Lets not forget that Nick already tore up AA last season.
  5. I would ask however what you mean by "work out"? Lets take some recent Twins deals as examples. Ervin Santana, because he had a bad last season of his deal did it not work out? How about Phil Hughes? On his original deal it worked out great and would have continued well imo. The problem was when the GM jumped the gun and extended him. How about the biggest deal of all, Joe Mauer? Did Joe's deal not work out for the team? With all of the #7 jerseys that were made and sold I bet that pohlad isn't owed anything from that deal either. Ricky Nolasco was a bad deal. But many knew it would be the day TR handed it out. Also, what do you have to back up "Not many times do long term free agents work out"? What is the % of deals that go bad?
  6. Is a .333/.381/.525 two month slash line good enough? Or are those go to AAA numbers?
  7. Robbie Grossman has signed on with the A's. Some markets are OK to miss out on. GL in Oakland Robbie.
  8. What made Nolan Ryan Nolan Ryan? What made him Great? It was his tremendous use of his lower half and the amazing strength that he had below the waist.Yes he had a great arm too. But he would have blown his arm out years before retirement had it not been for the strength of his lower body. Keep working on the lower body Brusdar.
  9. "Last year’s club was a good example of why one-year deals don’t typically work. There were a bunch of players with no connection to the club and very little team chemistry. Minnesota is never going to outspend other teams and I doubt many big-name free agents are identifying the Twins as an ideal destination for their talents." But yet they are repeating the same thing over again this season. We could be looking at 9-10 players on the OD roster who weren't on it last opening day. With all of the 1 year deals we have on hand now we could potentially be looking at the same scenario next season. When we won our WS's all those so many years ago it was due in large part b/c those guys knew each other like the back of their own hand. When does Falvine learn?
  10. The emphasis is on Berrios and Rosario with indications that Sano and Buxton are on the wait and see list.
  11. According to LEN 3: "The Twins are working to sign some of their young players to multiyear contracts and could announce some of those deals by the end of the week."
  12. The more of these reports I see and the less I am impressed with our farm. All of these guys thus far and good chance the rest have more ifs in their games than certains. The whats left to work ons are majors. I still think Nick Gordon is our most sure prospect.
  13. Duda? I like it. Its an milb with an ST invite. Can't go wrong or sign too many of these guys. These only cost $$$$ if they make the MLB team. This doesn't stop us from signing Kimbrel or Marwin Gonzalez.
  14. Yes to this. One of the greatest wrongs in baseball is that minor leaguers are living in poverty to chase their dream. All the while ML players become multi millionaires and owners roll around in Billions. With the travel schedules and the time dedicated to their team it isn't like these guys can go get another job to supplement their incomes either. Or even a part time job. Another 1k a month even wouldn't hurt the owners or MLB players.
  15. I'll be the contrarian here. No, to Johan Santana being in the HOF. For the position he played, SP, he's not a worthy member. With that opinion said, if he's not a worthy member then I could care less if he's even on the ballot or not. Imo the HOF is getting watered down. Harold Banes is no HOF player, but he's now a member. As for Halladay, he is iffey. Being iffey he's definately not worthy of first ballot. On another HOF note, Charles Comiskey who was a scoundrel to say it best, being in and Joe Jackson not being in is a wrong. Its well past time for Barry Bonds to be in too. But I suspect he will not be until he is dead and those that vote weren't writers during his playing time.
  16. Michael Kohn who was in camp with the Twins last spring just signed an milb deal with Arizona as well.
  17. So far in these lists the "What's Left To Work On" has been extremely significant. Lets hope these prospects get it better than the others have in the last decade.
  18. I bet Falvey's opinion on a Harper card changes in a few years once he's played for Cleveland or Texas.
  19. They did sign Adam Rosales to an milb deal today. Surprise, surprise. He has ties to Lavine and Texas. I'm all in favor of signing anyone they can to an milb deal. I have yet to see a bad one. On another note, Marwin Gonzalez is still available. He of all the remaining FA's would help this team the most. Can basically play all of the positions except for C at MLB quality. A solid bat from both sides of the plate. And will cost a fraction of what Harper/Machado/Kimbrel will. He will not cost a draft pick either, only cash and he's a potential trade chip in the future.
  20. 5 series against teams that it could be said are not even trying to win to start out April.
  21. No talk of marwin Gonzalez? This is the type of guy that we need. A solid bat who can play almost every position at an ML caliber of play. And switch hits. Our FO talks of being ready to strike when the oppurtunity comes. Should we just expect that oppurtunity to fall out of the sky? How about you put yourself in a better position for it to happen in the first place. A Gonzalez puts us in a far better position than Austin ever can.
  22. For those who want change, say good bye to the Disabled List. It will now be referred to as the Injured List. According to Jeff Passan.
  23. Frank Robinson passes away today at 83 y/o. One of our all-time greats.
  24. Problem is that not so long ago Gonsalves was thought of as a for sure #3 and possibly a #2. Now he's no more than a AAAA? We so quickly discard one prospect for another and the result is we continue to "hope" that our time to arrive is 2-3 more years down the line. Gonsalves was highly touted by the org and if he becomes just another forgot about prospect we need to know why.
  25. If Mejia goes down we still have Littell, Gonsalves, Romero, Stewart, and Thorpe to fall back on and evaluate. As a last resort we also have Duffey. That's 7 options. Total them all up and you barely have Perez's salary. Another year could easily go by and they may still not really know if these guys can or can't handle the ML. And if they do know w/o putting them in ML games that these guys aren't up to the task then that is another black eye on our org's developmental ability again.
