  1. Better than anything either of us has suggested I'd rather the Twins sign Brad Brach to a 2/13 option type deal and trade away some of our milb excess talent to Baltimore for Mychal Givens. It makes no sense to be sitting on the assets and seeing them go to waste. Basically you'd be looking at 9mil for both guys for 2019. Plus we'd have some badly needed depth and hopefully upgrades.
  2. 14mil for one year? If they are going to overpay for a reliever then they should have overpaid for some of the guys that did not suffer from reduced velocity last season. I get that we need pen help. But do we need to overpay for guys on the downside of their careers? Frankly we have the money for Kimbrel if we want to throw $$$$ around.
  3. Exactly. There is a good chance that Machado/Harper can be traded after a couple of seasons if things for the team aren't working out. Stanton had a huge contract. Miami was still able to trade him, even if the return was less than great. The risk is if Machado totally tanks. Could happen. But this team has such an aversion to risk that I don't see them breaking that mold anytime soon.
  4. We needed an SP, we get none. We needed some pen pieces, we get Blake Parker. We could use a corner stone like Machado, instead we are told to continue to wait for Buxton and Sano. No titles here as long as we have the owner we have.
  5. I also doubt that Clay Buchholtz is willing to sign an milb deal at this point either.
  6. To me the downside is these guys pitch to their career mediocreness and tie up a roster spot. In the meantime we still don't know what we have in the Stewart's and Gonsalves's.
  7. Twins got some good mileage out of that Santana deal. The original Hughes deal was good. Many foresaw that Nolasco would stink. We'll see how Lynn fares in Tx. The point is you have to take some long-term risks or you'll forever be facing what we could potentially be facing next off-season. So yeah, Santana was signed in Dec of 2014. What long-term commitment has been made since? A couple one and an option and a 2 year Reed deal is about it.
  8. Exactly beck, it could even be 4 depending upon how Mejia fares as an every turn ML SP. I just don't get it. By not signing anyone to long-term deals for these past 3-4 off seasons they are backing themselves into a corner. 2019 is the time to find out if any of our depth is worth counting on for the future. Awful job of developing by this org and an even worse job of turning excess minor league talent into usable ML assets. The Odorizzi deal is the type I refer to. I'm not a huge Odor fan but we should be seeing more of these when we are in avoidance of giving out long-term FA deals.
  9. If we aren't going to sign a Keuchel or Gio Gonzalez type and we aren't, then we should be seeing what we have in these younger arms. Because sadly after 2019 we will be left with a rotation of Berrios, ?, ?, ?, ?. Very likely Gibson, Odorizzi and Pineda will all be gone before or after this season ends. We have awful future depth looking us square in the eyes.
  10. I was hoping we had turned the page on dumpster diving by now. We have DeJong, Littell, Stewart, Gonsalves, Thorpe and even Duffey who used to be a starter waiting in line behind Mejia should he falter. That's 7 guys right there for 1 spot, no shortage of competition if that's what you're wanting. I'm with others. Firmly move on from Erv, he was a late season problem so not likely a part of any solutions.
  11. Since they have no money guaranteed beyond 2019 other than arb players, I'd like to see a Nolan Arenado signing next off season. A far superior "super star" imo to Manny and Bryce. I also would have liked to see Grandal, especially on a 1 year deal like he signed. Some much better bull pen moves than we have seen thus far would have been nice to see too. Maybe the price on Kimbrel tumbles and we see him here yet.
  12. I predict Dozier out does Schoop this season.
  13. I don't have much argument with the list. Sano imo is just outside the top 5. I would drop both Cron and May out of top 20. Larnach would be in and one of either Rooker, Enlow or Thorpe. I am confident that if Astudillo were given the chance that he would make this list. In the future.....
  14. This is a far better lineup than the OP having Buxton in leadoff. Polanco is the closest we have to a leadoff guy.
  15. In answer to your question on where I would place Cruz, I see him as somewhere around #8-10. His 2019 is quite vital to the success of this team imo. Thanks for doing this list and articles.
  16. I agree with Twinsterritory, appreciate the list. It's fun reading and fun to see other's passion in how and where they see each asset fits.
  17. I thought Rocco's legs looked like they were about half the size of Miguel's.
  18. If Adrianza or Torreyas is our 3B for any extended period in 2019 we are in trouble. That is the point of Sano's importance. It is of equal importance as Buxton. This offense can't afford a .250, or less, non power hitting utility player manning 3B.
  19. His Top 5 would have to be Berrios, Buxton, Lewis, Kiriloff and Graterol? Lewis would nudge out Kiriloff as my #1. This will be interesting. I'd agree that Kepler is too high right now and Romero as well. No Cruz though. Is that because his signing hasn't been made official?
  20. "I'm evaluating based on their value to the franchise's current path and vision." This is in Nick's second post I believe. With that in mind is why Sano should not be ranked behind #'s 11-13. I understand that other players will have passed him in value due to his awful 2018 and poor end of 2017. But at the same time that awful season actually makes clear and magnifies his value to this franchise. I don't think anyone can deny the importance of him rebounding and making it. Our FO even told us how important it was for Sano and Buxton to rebound after the season ended in defining how this club moves forward in the future. I personally would have Sano at about #6 presently. I believe the Cruz signing, who I rank ahead of Sano in importance, will play a huge role in 2019.
  21. My issue with May is in his 5 seasons as a Twin he has averaged a whopping 46 IP per season. Bottom line is he can't be counted on. Not to mention his almost 5 ERA when he has pitched. May shouldn't even be Top 20 in our assets let alone #11.
  22. Yeah, not at all sure to me how an oft injured May is rated ahead of a potential 40HR hitter in Sano either. I just don't get it.
  23. I'm not a Jim Pohlad fan and I won't waste a whole lot of everyone's time telling them how I really feel about our teams ownership. I don't agree with every move our present FO has made in the 2 plus years they have been here. But I can honestly say they are doing very good things overall. And I count this Cruz signing as one of them. Take a look at our top milb prospects. That tells us of the great progress they have made in a short time. The Cruz signing of 14.3mill guaranteed will have no bearing on future signs. He wouldn't have been signed at all if past signs were having a bearing.
  24. I have to disagree as it can't be both. Its one or the other.
  25. Three things come into my mind with the Cruz signing. 1. The club wants to create some excitement in the fan base. That is happening. That has to be taken into account from the perspective of the FO. 2. They see something about Rooker and others that tell them he is not ready yet for the show. Hence the Cruz and Cron signings. Cruz and Cron or anyone else for that matter is not in Rookers way, he's just not ready yet. 3. The FO sees 2019 as a window of oppurtunity, which they should and it is. The established Cruz bat makes our lineup sooo much better. 2019 in AAA and Rooker could well be ready. Cruz has a great 2019 and with his option becomes a great trade piece next Nov. Cruz has a bad 2019 and is washed up and he costs an additional 300k. Cut ties. This is really a no lose signing.
