  1. But yes, I think any team that picked up Machado is better. I don't see regret for the majority of this deal unless it is injury. He's only 26 and is an annual 6WAR player.
  2. The Padres have been horribly ran for 50 years. Yeah they have a nice system. But until they prove otherwise they will find a way to blow it. Hosmer and Myers are proof that it hasn't changed yet. I'll actually take how the Twins have been ran, even recently, over the Pads anyday.
  3. The problem is SD has been awfully run for years. Its not just the past either. The present GM has them on the hook for Hosmer and Myers. A cesspool of an org. GL Machado. LOL
  4. Right now their SP is awful. They have some nice young guns in the pipeline. But we well know that some don't pan out and others have struggles before they solidify themselves. Myers and Hosmer are expensive baggage. I see just more struggles ahead for SD.
  5. This is a big break for the Twins, especially, of all of the Central teams.
  6. Cron has the inside track for sure. He has cost 1.2 mil already and he is one of the FO's headline moves of the off season. Right along with Schoop behind Cruz. To me the FO does not look good at all if he is cut out of camp.
  7. 24 more guys like Willians and we'd be popping champaigne bottles in October. I have no doubt. What he adds to chemistry cannot be measured.
  8. My guess is the insurance is Ronald Torreyes as utility, he would take over Adrianza's role, who would fill in for Sano. I'm not saying I like the plan, but that would appear to be it.
  9. Willians Astudillo should be on the team that goes north at the end of March. No doubt in my mind, he proved so last season. I don't care what Cron is getting paid or the loss of a mil if he doesn't make the team. Or that Austin is out of options. Willians makes the team better. Period.
  10. Yeah and I'm sure he's in the best shape of his life too. How many times have we heard that concerning players after they report in the spring?
  11. If Berrios would agree to either deal, I prefer option 2 from the teams standpoint, do it now. This is just under a 9M AAV. If he does put up a season like Nova or Severino that AAV would likely go to 12M AAV. Even if all he is is the Berrios of 17 and 18 then 9M is still a good deal for the team. There are some pretty bad SP who are making 8-10M. While they are at it get Gibson extended for 3/30. Again, some pretty bad SP who are making 10M per year. I would be OK with signing Odorizzi to a similar 3/30 deal, though I'm less excited about him. That would leave us needing only 2 SP for next season. That's however is doable.
  12. Either deal, roll the dice and do it. Just do it. Stands to reason Berrios would have a lower AAV than both Severino and Nola.
  13. I have said all winter if Austin is going to make the club he will need to be an asset in the COF.
  14. Ben Revere signs with Texas. milb deal with an invite to camp.
  15. I'm with you guys. Make a couple of concession stands ans sections peanut free. Are we going to ban peanuts in all places to accomadate less than 2% of the people?
  16. This opening day we will likely have at least 6 new FA's on the OD roster. None of these are guaranteed to be with the team beyond the present one. A 25% turnover just of new FA's alone. This in and of itself is a poor way to build. We need to be building continuity, not constant reshuffling of the deck. Lets hope that Polanco/Kepler are a sign of things to come. If they are where it ends then it is a waste. On the other hand 2 young super stars are available to supplement a roster and all they will cost is cash and a draft pick. If you continue to wrap up the core on 5-7mil a year deals and factor in more young/cheap players on the horizon then paying one of these young stars is not an issue. I'm not saying you build a team of FA's but when you are in a position to pick up one to supplement a team it is something that should be given great consideration.
  17. Actually "wait and see" in regard to Sano and Buxton was what I read in a LEN III article in regard to Twins extensions. Do Hyoung Park also is saying close to the same thing in a present article about a Kyle Gibson possible extension on twinsdotcom. I may well be confused but I am merely going by what I have read.
  18. To sign Rosario to say a 5 year deal, therefore him losing 2 years of free agency, makes him 32y/o when he becomes an FA. 32 y/o OF's aren't getting treated so kindly on the open market these days. Yes he's going to demand a fair ransom to give those FA years up. His big payday hangs in the balance. I suspect he will want to act very wisely. He and Berrios will be harder deals to iron out.
  19. I have no desire to see a Harper,Cave, Garver OF. Buxton, Rosario, Harper, Yes. Let Max know that he will need a 1B's glove this year. Dump Cron instead. I value D too much. Kepler has a fair bit of 1B play in the minors. But I agree. A Harper or Machado under the present circumstance might be a long time before it is seen again.
  20. With both of these extensions the Twins essentially have most all of these players prime years. Keep them coming Falvine.
  21. I can't go back to the 60's to opine. But imo Hrbek was our best 1B since then. Hrbek was like a cat in stretching for low throws and no one in MLB was better at running down a foul pop down the line. My order would be: 1.Hrbek 2.Carew 3. Morneau 4. Mientkiewicz 5. Mauer I can't list Mauer higher since he transitioned from C and tbh the 1st half of his time at 1B he wasn't very good. But he did work at it I will give him that.
  22. I have no complaint on this extension, or the one to Polanco. I want to see more. Rosario and Berrios. I think the wait and see stance on Buxton and Sano is a mistake. Show the players you are willing to take a risk. If both received similiar deals to Kepler and Polanco it would hardly handcuff the team even if the players don't pan out. But if Sano and Buxton come through which we all hope then the extension prices will greatly increase. I don't see Kepler as being any less of a risk.
  23. Yeah, Polanco is not going to 3B. If Gordon pushes his way through as I think he will then Polanco at 5mil per is a very attractive trade piece.
  24. As far as Buxton goes, lets take a look at 2016-17. He played in 232 games. He amassed 7 WAR in that season and a half. So thats about a 4.5WAR per season. Even if he's the 2016 Buxton, a 3WAR player, if we had a 3WAR player for 5-6mil per season that is pure bargain. I say sign him and don't bat an eye. It's a risk well worth taking. If he can stay healthy he is still an STL player. Yes there will be times he's not hitting, it's the org's job to surround him with players that make up for those times.
