Dave Borton replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
That one surprised me till I took a look at first half vs second half of his season. Downhill slope.- 339 replies

Monday was talking about a special relationship, as he experienced it in his 19 years of MBL, between mates in the on deck circle. Of course there can be camaraderie in the clubhouse; of course there is always a Piercynski around on many clubs.

Injuries and age. Buxton turns 32 this winter. Ober and height. Taller athletes duration diminishes in ball. His hips are giving out. Hips are needed for pitching as seen in his declining velocity. Both athletes are at greater risk to injuries in 2026.

Rick Monday, in the Dodger/Giants game last night made an interesting comment. He stated the importance of a constant order in the lineup. Batters in a constant lineup order can develop relationship with the guy on deck. Observations by a trusted teammate. "Was that a strike I missed or was it the ump?...What do you see about my swing that I am missing; am I flattening it too much on the fast ball...What am I doing on the curve..." Baldelli's roulette fashion lineup order defeats the "camaraderie" (Monday's term for this) that develops over the season with a constant order.

He means, "ach," or I do. Some German used at home when I was a kid. "Ach," (pronounced 'aack') I screwed up that test.

I listen to a lot of Yanks games. Porous defense, inconsistent pitching/defense. ERA, 17th place. Hitting, 13th place. Slugging, 1st place. Fielding, 24th place. Post-season and WS will be who is hot and which team has the best arms on the mound. Yanks exit 1st round,.

Twins TV and Radio Announcers. How do they Rank?
Dave Borton replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Great article. VERY subjective thoughts, radio only. I cut the cord. I finally read what happened to Ben Wagner in Toronto, now working the Orioles. Will give him a listen again. Atteberry is terrible. Loved him on game updates. Couldn't believe how he would get the info out there. But in the booth, he needs to learn the art of quiet. Scully had the pace, volume, and the appropriate use of silence down to an art. Feel fatigued by Chatteberry's incessant gas. And Gladden needs to retire. Huge gaps in describing action, forgetting we don't have visuals. Love Thrall/Brantley in Cinci; Kasper/Jackson in Chicago. Descriptive, enthusiastic PBP and insightful baseball background in color. I realize Pat Hughes is a recognized HOFer w/Cubs but he just doesn't work for me. Every game sounds the same. Picked up Jon Miller at SF from another poster and have enjoyed him. Love Monday's color in LA. Susie w/Yanks works harder getting clubhouse info than anybody in the game. Denny in KC makes a funeral home director seem like an extrovert. Same goes for LAA booth. -
No argument from me. Just an update on an old face who churned thru our system and a compliment from an old RF whom I enjoy in the booth at 80 years old. Monday, not me. He's got me by 3 yrs.

There is no way Gasper should be considered for the C position going forward. This is MLB, not AAA. Someone mentioned Rohrvedt. He is hitting .340 over last 15 games. He has been starting a ton as of late for Dodgers as the Dodgers wind down their season. Rick Monday does radio color for the LAD and he has been extremely complementary of Rohrvedt's work behind the plate. Filling the C position is tough. Doubly tough is finding that catcher who can work with what promises to be a very, very young pitching staff. Open the wallet that defies opening.

I love the 'Whatever Athletics...' I call them 'Homeless A's.' Good article on poor attendance at both the A's and the Sacramento Rivercats AAA games since the move into Sacramento. Wait till the fiasco hits Vegas, which is going down the toilet economically. Canucks and Mexicans not coming over. https://www.sfgate.com/athletics/article/athletics-attendance-hurting-other-sacramento-team-21045077.php and https://www.travelandtourworld.com/news/article/las-vegas-battles-for-survival-as-dwindling-tourism-from-canada-and-mexico-exposes-the-citys-fragile-future-amid-exploding-economic-crisis-and-growing-political-strife-in-the-us/

Falvey has some magic potion which he uses with Pohlad. Falvey is safe. Baldelli does whatever he is told. Baldelli is safe. Tingler. All his fault. He goes. Situation resolved.

Perfect game, with 3 minutes of Scully announcing so, so descriptively. Today's announcers could take a lesson. 60 years ago, today. https://www.mlb.com/news/vin-scully-call-of-sandy-koufax-perfect-game-60-years-later?lctg=59292003&partnerId=it-20250909-14887521-mlb-1-A&utm_id=it-20250909-14887521-mlb-1-A

Ah, the Sandman will have the game on radio 'morrow eve. And, me boy First baseman Nolan Schanuel (celebrated Florida Atlantic University grad -- me alma mater) is on the injured list, and won't be back as soon as the Halos would have hoped. Go Owls. https://fausports.com/sports/baseball/schedule
