  1. Unsure about Rowson's temperament but Shelton seems to be his own man. Good article in the Strib. years ago about Shelton's work ethic, work structure, and all the preparation he put in daily in Spring training. Article left me with the impression that he was a baseball man first and "an employee" quite secondarily. I think we have 4 good candidates if all the wire services have it correctly.
  2. I have listened to the discussion re: him bailing mid-season. I have to remember I am a fan. But I would also like to feel what it is like to be in his shoes. His devotion is to the team, his family, his career. His universe is broader than our single set of two eyes. Imagine having the inside seat to view Falvey, Baldelli, and Pohlad which he had. Might your loyalties and decision be different than you have as one fan? Sorry, we are getting sidetracked on Ol' Wes who isn't coming here regardless. May his Bulldogs rest in the basement for eternity. db
  3. On Monday, San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt retired. Can't remember where I read it in the last month but he was on a list of mgrs MLB players would LEAST want to play for.
  4. Jazz trumps Concordia's son with a blast. 7-6 Yanks. Louie, Louie...
  5. Louie vs Judge, HR. Bottom 6th, 6-6, on an 0-2 pitch. Louie, Louie...
  6. Loved, loved Suzuki as a ballplayer. The spunk, the fight, the grit. I remember when he took 5 (?) stitches the the chin. It reopened the previous month's stitches (8 of them). Molitor said, "I've got other catchers; he needs some healing rest." Imagine how that feels to have that mask over the fresh stitches. The next day Suzuki had talked to Molitor and guess what? He was back in the lineup the next day. If that kind of determination and commitment translates into an ability to motivate young players in the same manner, count me in.
  7. Polo cranks two off Skubal as Mariners squeak by the Tigers. Gotta love the guy even if I am rooting for Detroit.
  8. This young man, Castro, already has learned what life is about. My hat is off to him and all the other awardees.
  9. I have Yanks radio booth on. Dave Sims is so overwhelmed he got the score incorrect, followed immediately by calling the count wrong.
  10. Based on whose voice besides Ryan's? In reading, in listening to podcasts, I do not come to the same conclusion. Second, without a doubt, this has to be the most tone deaf professional franchise I have ever followed. There is not a voice within the Twins organization I believe. All of the narrative is packed with cliche and empty hope. I just don't see it. Further, I have grave doubts that the system in place to develop future talent is able to accomplish their task.. Glad to follow them from a distance but until I see proof in the pudding, you won't see my butt in a seat.
  11. Boone is getting his exercise with walks to the mound today.
  12. Rocco Baldelli <s>Wasn't</s> Was Part of the Problem. FIFY.
  13. I will be the 1st to admit that I don't fully understand compilation of 'farm system ranking.' But given the Twins approach to player development and the past lackluster performance of examples such as Lewis, Julien, Miranda, Lee (?), I am not sure how much stock I can put into that #2 ranking. I am asking a question more than arguing the point. Are the Twins really developing those kids in the minors? Second, a "con" which I didn't see listed would be "Being micro-managed by an exec who is overcommitted to every facet of business and baseball operations." For me, it is a no-win position. Falvey thinks he knows more about baseball than he does.
  14. 1 hour. No accountability. Nothing changes. Get a new clone in will be next step.
  15. Bingo. Loved his book. The pick will be interesting in that Falvey is hands-on. All the mgrs I would like would never agree to that. My guess is that the next mgr with be BalldelliDeux.
  16. Only thing tougher than being a Twins fan is being an Angels fan.
  17. Listened to Reds game so didn't hear any Buxton not playing chatter. Any booth information on Buxton sitting?
  18. Kershaw's last regular season game. He can't get the FB up beyond 88-89mph. Lots of revolutions on that shoulder.
  19. Rortvedt is catching for the Dodgers, using finger signals. Not sure; maybe it's Kershaw's preference, possibly pitch com is shot. But 2nd inning?
  20. Factoids from Rick Monday this week: o Avg FB speed, MLB: 93.4mph o Avg BA to date: .245 o Avg wHip: 1.29 o Avg ERA: 4.15 o Avg BB per 9: 3.2 o Avg K per 9: 8.5 o Avg K/BB: 2.64
