  1. Perez was shaky (4 BBs and the homer-fest), but Baldelli yanked him just in time. I know he was hoping to get him a W, but it is better than getting the team an L. The bullpen was just fine (super in fact)...only one BB over five innings. This should be a recipe for the Twins. Make the Yankees beat you by hitting not be walking, walking and then three-run homers.
  2. What I fear the most against the Yankees is the BBs and falling behind in the count. If Twins pitchers don't come after the Yankees, they're in for a long series. With that said, if the pitching staff comes after the Yankees, I think they'll do just fine.
  3. I've been harping on this as well. I was afraid we might see a Rogers mini-meltdown and we did--in gut-punching fashion. Now we add May and Littel to the list.
  4. There are three things that will sink us faster than anything else IMHO: errors, base-running gaffes and walks by our pitchers. We knew the Twins would come back down to earth a bit concerning the bombas, but the sloppy play of late has been disconcerting. Culver's Crow Sandwich for my lunch (with crinkle fries to offset the feathers): I admit that my forecast about the Indians has been wrong. I truly believed that the White Sox were actually a better team than the Indians. I couldn't have been more wrong.
  5. Play Arraez more. (Sorry, I just had to say that.) Nice and needed win. Cave was apparently going on contact, so it's hard to fault him for that. Arraez's base-running blunder was another mental mistake. We escaped our sloppy play this time, but often in tight games, those kinds of plays come back to bite you very, very hard.
  6. Arraez's 9th inning AB--being stuck with Schoop's 0-2 and working a walk--was a heck of an AB for the Twins. They almost pulled the game out of the hat. I'd prefer to see Arraez in every game possible until he at least goes into a slump (although I prefer to see him in the one or two slot because of his patience at the dish).
  7. Arraez's AB in the 9th should not be overlooked. That was a great AB. They put up a good fight in the 9th, but just came up one pitch short. It happens. Diaz was dealing 98 to 99 so it was a good 9th.
  8. There is actually a bright side to not sweeping the Indians. It was being bandied about that Cleveland would be sellers if they fell behind by 9 or 10 games. They probably will be gamblers instead. Think about it from a more rational viewpoint. There is no way they would be selling their assets to the Twins. They would be selling their assets to our opponents in the playoffs. In other words, as long as the Twins take care of their jobs, they will be fine.
  9. I was more irritated that Arraez led off the next inning with a double and the Twins were unable to get him home, but we did what we set out to do and that was to push Cleveland further back instead of letting them get closer.
  10. Schoop hit well earlier in the season, but his flaws concerning pitch selection are coming to fruition at an inopportune time. The Twins had a few chances to sweep the series but didn't hit particularly well with RISP in the finale. Garver's AB after the Arraez double was equally futile, especially down a run. Oh well, we pushed Cleveland back a game. That was the overall goal.
  11. Arraez continues to rake. His OBP is ridiculous, but because his plate discipline is outstanding, it's possible he can keep it above .400. Please don't trade him!
  12. Arraez can play 2nd and should get as many ABs as possible as he continues to flirt with .400 BA.
  13. Nice report as always. I'd like to see Thorpe given another shot the next time we need a fill-in starter. He just keeps getting better and better.
  14. I concur. Occasionally, he falls into to the trap of keeping the starter in too long (especially when the game is tied), but not very often. He seems to know pretty well when to pull the plug.
  15. I want to 'heart' this instead of 'like' it. As we can see now, the confidence in the bullpen is Harper and Rogers; everyone else is only brought in when the Twins have a cushion or are getting trounced.
  16. I think the most palpable improvement has come from Polanco, but Garver's is more subtle and perhaps even more significant because it can reduce the number of pitches that need to be thrown. The sleeper in this mix is Marwin Gonzales. He fills in brilliantly wherever and whenever he's called upon. He can also just give other players a chance to rest now and then. I love having him on the team. I'm wondering how Cron and Schoop stack up on 'D' as well. I have to say this as well; Sano has not been reliable at the hot corner. I know I am risking a hail of poison arrows for saying such things, but I'm just observing. I hope he is working on his throwing as well.
  17. When I saw it was Mejia that was the pitching change, I was pretty certain we would lose the game. His notorious control problems really don't bode well for such situations. I'd rather experiment with other arms than relying on Mejia until he shows he can help the team. For all intents and purposes, up to this point, he's only hurt the team.
  18. PS-When the play is in front of you, that throw to third is quite easy for nearly any centerfielder to make. That's why no one tags up on that play not even speedsters.
  19. I have to disagree with the gushing over Buxton's tag-up to 3rd. Unless the centerfielder turns his back on the infield, one should never run on that play because it doesn't give you any significant advantage and if you get thrown out the runner on 3rd doesn't score, so it's a bad play. Buxton's triple was good play and stealing second to get in scoring position was a good play. "Almost driving in Sano" was not a good at bat and the tag-up was a particularly poor decision because it takes a run off the board.
  20. We won! I hope we score 15 tomorrow so we can use less Rogers and more fill-ins.
