  1. Yeah, I was also on the Gibson blame train...**GULP*** Don't bother stopping; I'll jump off now. Let's hope they can figure out how to deal with his problem effectively. It sounds like it's tough to deal with when it is 'raging.' Some here mentioned he looked gaunt; now we know the reason. Beyond balls and strikes, I hope he simply recovers. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ulcerative-colitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20353326
  2. Always nice to read these personal profile pieces. Thanks!
  3. With the expanded roster, who knows, maybe Rocco will do a couple of minor league starter games where three young pitchers each go three innings. Something needs to change. Getting raked by Detroit is a very bad sign.
  4. Nice to keep this streak going. It's true that Berrios looked marginally better yesterday, but Gibson must have everyone scratching their heads. The bats and lots of sloppy play from the Tigers notched the win for Gibson. He should buy everyone a steak. That's 20 hits in 10 innings against inarguably the worst hitting team in baseball and he gets two Ws to boot. Maybe something is wrong with his mechanics as well?
  5. PS-I know the score was 9-2 at that point and this is likely considered a pointless beef, but Cruz was safe on that deep ground ball down the third baseline...
  6. Thanks for this very thorough overview of the various scenarios.
  7. Chicago looks to me like a fairly free-wheeling bunch of hitters, so they swung at many pitches out of the strike zone. The good thing is that he did get 15 out of 25 first pitch strikes; however, he still seems to be struggling a bit. When facing teams like the Yankees, everyone on this list knows that they will be very, very patient getting the counts in their favor. I hope that by playoff time he is able to get that strike percentage a bit higher and get that fastball back up a couple of ticks.
  8. Important to win these games against the Sox as we are getting no help from the Tigers as completely expected. Besides Schoop, the Twins seemed to be grinding a bit. It was easy to see the Sox strategy: "Don't let Cruz beat you," even if it means loading the bases (twice). By-and-large, it worked quite well. I think that having Rosario follow Cruz is a bad idea if teams are going to start walking Cruz because Rosario will expand the zone. The second time up, with the bases loaded, they didn't even bother throwing him a strike. Great pitching today!
  9. Thanks for these recaps! I admit this was a bit easier to read after winning the last two games of the series. PS-I wanted Minor as much as anyone, but the Rangers still thought they were going to make a run at the playoffs starting with wiping out Twins by sweeping them (that's the position they took), so of course, I'm certain they were asking for the sun and the moon. If you think you're making the playoffs, you're not giving up your ace unless they are willing to make a ridiculously lopsided trade... something like Graterol, Lewis and Arraez. No thanks.
  10. Not everyone! I was glad he was sent to AAA, but I guessed it was just a matter of time before he started hitting better in bigs. While he was down on the farm, he really was the Mike Trout of AAA; some of that had to carry over into the bigs (at least a little) and now we are starting to see the fruit of his play in the minors.
  11. The bumpers are slumping; the boom bands are banging. The hakken-kracks are howling and the hackimer's are growling. Glad to see Hackimer's name again. Free Hackimer!
  12. I expect he'll be called up in September along with a gaggle of other players. Let's see if the buzz is real. The 103 fastball is nice, but can he really rely on other pitches to keep hitters off balance? And, call-ups have to throw strikes. It is much easier to fire strikes in the minors...just ask Vasquez and Romero. Don't get me wrong. I want to see that blazing fastball bury some hitters, but it's a big adjustment for many pitchers.
  13. Getting lit up by the Tigers is NOT a good sign, especially after Goodrum had to leave with an injury. They were down to one guy who was decent. I think he might be injured or he's reverted to an old habit.
  14. Rocco's confidence in Berrios to work himself out of jams after the 5th is mystifying. He gets burned yet again.
  15. ...and if they pitch like Giolito did today, the Twins will be in trouble unless they can up the level of their game to match it.
  16. Very interesting discussion. Graterol and Alcala need to be protected long term. I still hesitate when it comes to Hildenberger. Maybe he has become Addison Reed, but I'm not sold on that theory yet. He was just too consistently solid over long stretches and then became awful over long stretches. I hope they have pinpointed his troubles. Of course Astudullio is an asset. Fans love him . That matters.
  17. Giolito is not going to pitch like this every single time out, but he is going to pitch like this sometimes because he's a very good pitcher. I have no problem with today's game. This happens to every team during the year against good pitchers. Monday's game on the other hand......
  18. Oddly, I remember that team well because that is the year I asked for the APBA Baseball game for Christmas and received it (I'm curious if anyone remembers that game.) They could hit home runs right and left, but they hit a ton of solo shots because no one was on base (at least in my game). They also couldn't pitch and were the slowest team on the planet, except for one their outfielders who was super fast but not a very good hitter (the name slips my mind,)
  19. I watched Alcala from Tom's short video. He seems to have electric stuff, but his follow through looks a bit awkward--kind of falling off the mound and landing in different places. Are they working on improving that or they will just go with the flow because he seems to be able to throw strikes and get strikeouts?
