  1. No question when Rosario smoked one right at the 'Stros first baseman with the sacks loaded and then Sano was out by a fraction on the slow roller, Greinke was off the hook and, as it turned out, the game was over for the Twins' offense except for the 1 run which is never enough. Sano must weigh 300 lbs, by the way. Oh well, play today and see what happens. I do think if Twins win today, they will win tomorrow. Just loosen up, play, and see what happens.
  2. Time to just sit back and watch. Play ball.
  3. At least at 1pm it will be a balmy 63deg. I don't care if they play at 1AM. Just please get through 1 round of these playoffs or 2020 won't be any different than any other recent year when they made the playoffs. Astros don't wear pin stripes with NY on the front so there goes that excuse.
  4. This crazy year of 2020 has introduced another new term to MLB playoffs, "seeding". I don't pretend to understand all of it but I do know that the higher seeded teams get a home field advantage and a better draw so winning the Central with the best record possible makes a huge difference with a 23-5 home record and a mediocre road record.. Might as well pretend that this year is like any other and going deep into playoffs or even the Texas World Series is a big deal. What I am getting at is that winning, if not sweeping this unusual season ending series with Cincy does mean something. Or maybe, who cares?
  5. 23-5 record at home in 2020. Twins love empty Target.
  6. My thought exactly. Cousins is the football version of Mauer. The fact that they both play(ed) for Minnesota teams is coincidental I assume. 2 overpaid "stars" who rack up numbers but don't inspire teammates and don't win.
  7. 15 runners left on base in last nights loss to the W'Sox. I didn't bother to look at the box score but 1 run speaks for itself. This is more and more 4bagger or nothing offense and that won't work in playoffs or maybe even against these "better take them seriously" Sox. This one week stay in Chicago should prove to be very interesting.
  8. Those wascally Tigers. Next 7 games should resolve a lot.
  9. The Yankees' uniforms may still stop the Twins but the team they have put on the field lately should not.
  10. He can't expect every Twins team to be as good as the piranhas. Need an opinion on this from Hawk. Grab some bench Ozzie.
  11. 20 games left, 12 at home. Twins are 14-4 at home this year with cardboard fans and digitized noise. Best home record since Dome Days. I just hope there is a playoff rotation but chances look good now that the lineup is retaking shape. The 8 runs last night in a must win were good to see.
  12. Can't get over finishing the season against the Reds and before that 3 against the Cubs with 2 in between against the Tigers. Glad to see Buxton back in the lineup. No stats to back it up but it just seems that the winning % goes up when he is in there. He needs to finsih this season out with a couple of non injury related games off maybe but ideally he should be able to run the table. Sox and Indians play 4 against each other prior to the season ending NL Central matchups that they both have. Should be a lot of scoreboard watching.
  13. It seems Twins were swept by Gardenhire's Tigers due to offense disappearing, not just pitching. Many times the two go hand in hand. Now they play the first place, yes first place White Sox and are out of the playoff picture as of today. Yankees may not be a problem after all.
  14. Make sure the bad calls are intentional, not simple human error.
  15. Now I get it. Watching the Nats-Phils game last night and Bryce Harper came up in the 9th inning. The top of the "box" for Harper was barely above his waste. So if you are among the game's elites, the box mysteriously shrinks. The idea of electronic calls of balls and strikes now makes perfect sense. The box technician controls the game.
  16. 21....Tigers, White Sox, Indians 8....Cardinals, Cubs, Reds regular season over
  17. No question Sano has been right in the middle of Twins' offense lately, last night included. Maybe he has tried a different bat.
  18. Every batter technically has a different strike zone plus they are constantly moving around and some stand upright while others crouch more. I can't imagine how the electronic box can be 100% accurate either since no two boxes are the same. Maybe every player could have some kind of sensor sewed into their uniform. I guess what I am saying is that if balls and strikes are called based upon that box, how is the box itself 100% accurate for every player? Maybe the strike zone should be the same for every player. I'm sure the < 6' guys would love that ha. Not objecting, just asking.
  19. I was actually thinking of starting a thread about how the Twins, this crazy year, have just kept their heads down and played ball. No show boating, or controversy; simply show up and play. Acting like pros should act. Meanwhile the Sep schedule is all Tigers, Indians and White Sox except for a double header against the Cardinals and finishing the "regular season" against the Cubs and Reds. Let the playoffs begin.
  20. thetuse might be a lawyer so the verbosity would make sense. Translation;"Maybe Sano should try a different bat."
  21. I always thought that the now retired catcher/first baseman who wore #7 should have used a lighter bat later in his career when he seemed to be over matched by his own lumber many times. Of course I offered no detailed examination, it just made sense. It does get back to what are the Twins' brain trust thinking? What would a < .200 hitter have to lose by trying especially this season? He should try every bat in the bat rack. Many times the simplest solution is the best but coaching has never been a Twins' trademark. Just send 'em out there.
  22. Pitching, defense and speed win a bunch of games. Nice to see them hang in there after losing the no hitter and then the lead in the 9th, ironically on an error. The W is what matters. Nice to see posters resorting to the old fashioned eye test as opposed to a bunch of analytics. Good defense is seen, not crunched on a spread sheet. The unearned run stat is as basic as it gets.
  23. Great thread because stays relevant. Two numbers have popped up recently. First one is the cumulative MLB batting average into last nights game(s). .241 What does that tell you about this supposed regular season? Second number is 20 as in 20 games in a row Indians have defeated the Tigers. I wonder if one Ron Gardenhire has something to do with that. No help for his prior victim whatsoever. As an aside, is there any way to dispense with the September part of this joke of a regular season and get on with the playoffs which might actually be somewhat interesting?
  24. What analytics spreadsheet column is BAPiP on? I bet Eddie could not tell you what that was, never mind me.
  25. Experiment as much as possible. Try many different lineups but Sano and Buxton need as much work as possible. Pitch by committee as in yesterday's game. Work on weaknesses. Play smart but not too hard. Stay loose, Have fun. Get ready for 2021. Who cares about 2020? Above all..do NOT win the World Series in 2020. Playoffs would be nice because of extra practice. By the way, total reliance on the long ball is not working. Try small ball for a few games. Actually try a few bunts in a game.
