No reason to trade for its own sake. Correa is the best final puzzle piece. Kirilloff is a question mark until he stays healthy. Gordon is a keeper. No point playing footsies with other teams when we have what we need if all goes well.

Offseason Status Update: New Year, Same Old
Thebigalguy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I look into my crystal ball and see the Twins exploding with young players like the Guardians did last year. Forget about stinking trades and signing what's left of free agents. We're good to go. The only caveat is health. Keep the boys of summer healthy and I'm liking what the team has in place.- 14 replies

It's good comedy, ain't it? From the outside looking in, anyway. I can't imagine Correa is having much fun about now. But the bottom line is that the guy is going to get a big payday, even if it's not quite as gigantic as he had hoped. He won't have trouble feeding his family. (We all remember when former NBA player Latrell Sprewell refused a $21-million three-year contract because it wouldn't be sufficient to feed his children.) Right about now Correa should be submitting to a Twins physical so that the team can decide whether to stick with the offer it made him or not.

Did the Twins Miss Something with Carlos Correa?
Thebigalguy replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Boras and Correa are smart, and obviously they are, they would give the Twins (on the sly) a chance to do whatever medical diligence they consider necessary. Ten years and $285 mil might look sweet to Correa before this is over.- 13 replies

Mets Also Have Medical Concerns about Carlos Correa
Thebigalguy replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
These 10+ year contracts are ridiculous. I have nothing against a player making out like Hercules against some billionaire, but the sport is becoming farcical. Can’t wait to see what Ohtani gets. -
What Would a Twins Rebuild Look Like?
Thebigalguy replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting. This could be a competitive team as you create it. It’s a young one even without a rebuild. I prefer for them to go full throttle after the Guardians, who surprised us. The Twins can be the team to do that this year. Avoid injuries, play up to potential. They’re overdue. -
As we know, Boras gave the Twins a shot. They were right to tell him to hike. I’m tired of greedy free agents and spoiled billionaire owners and unhappy Twin fans who want the team to splurge. No need. Let’s win the right way. Invest the money in affordable housing and cancer research. Let the big money teams embarrass themselves trying to buy a Series. That’s corruption. Let’s play Moneyball, not Monopoly. That is the Minnesota way. And I’m all in. Our society needs to grow up.

Twins Need a Minnesota Miracle
Thebigalguy replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for the great article. I prefer the Twins to sit tight if the alternative is trading away a batting champion. Kepler is gone with Gallo’s signing, almost for sure. Otherwise, we have strong starters and premier relievers, good defense and some pop. If Baldelli manages pitching based on game day performance and not pitch count, the Twins have a shot at playoffs if injuries can be minimized. There’s talent in the pipeline. The team doesn’t need a savior, it needs 100% every game from roster and staff, a minimum number of errors and base running mistakes, and hitting to all fields.- 81 replies

Offseason Status Update: Time to Pivot
Thebigalguy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We're good to go without free agents. Farmer at SS is more than adequate. No Correa, but in the same ballpark. Trade Kepler, whose immaturity at the plate and in his decision to go unvaxxed at a time when it was dangerous to do so and kept him out of Canada (BTW, 373 Americans died yesterday of Covid, and that's about average) tells me he needs to try his luck someplace else if anybody will give the Twins good weight in return. If he's not traded, though, we'll have an elite outfield defensively and maybe a different Twins coach can get the young man to try something a little different, since doing the same ugly thing repeatedly with the same results is the definition of insanity. Arraez and Kiriloff (if healthy) at first, Polanco, Farmer, Miranda. Vasquez behind the plate with Jeffers still coming of age. A potential ace or two on the starting staff and elite relievers. What more can we want, except maybe a manager who doesn't pull starters after a designated number of pitches? I don't see any hurry to make deals. With luck, Lewis will be at SS by the All-Star break. Let suitors come to us, not vice versa. Last year the FO traded the closer at the last minute without much return. Not a good look. I think, and you might disagree, that the team has all the pieces in place if players deliver what we have a right to expect.- 38 replies

I don't mind a trade, but not for a guy with one year on his contract at his age. Farmer can get the job done at SS. and the idea of trading Arraez is horsemeat. My contention is that the Twins have what they need on the roster and in the minors if most players live up to their potential and stay healthy. A good starting staff and a trustworthy catcher, with Jeffers under less pressure to grow, a premier relief staff, the batting king to lead off, some pop and power here and there, a premier defensive outfield. Infield defense is a possible weakness. I think we can be playoff bound with what we have.

I like where the Twins are. They have what they need on the roster and in the minors. If they play up to their potentials, we're playoff bound. Forget free agents and trades. The team has what it needs if they get the job done and stay healthy.

Gut Punch! Carlos Correa Signs with the Giants
Thebigalguy replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Disappointed. Dior won’t be in the quaint Twin Cities. “Show me the money!” he shouted with greed, and boy, SF did just that. I say hold tight, wait for Lewis at short, and stay away from the greedheads. We’ve got the horses we need. Let’s go get the World Series ring. -
Rumor: Gleeman Reports Twins Have Made Correa Substantial Offer
Thebigalguy replied to CRF's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If CC is sincere in his interest in the Ts, then I'm all for working with Boras until he signs or goes elsewhere. My fear is that Boras could use T interest to jack up CC's price with other teams who spend this kind of money as a regular strategy and will beat the Ts all to heck in a bidding war. -
Rumor: Ken Rosenthal update on Carlos Correa
Thebigalguy replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I agree that it's hard to say if Correa is a linchpin or a bad idea, given 2022, when the Twins were in the hunt until September without Correa playing his best. I understand that with him there are clubhouse intangibles, as if he's determined the rest of his career to atone for his cheatin' heart. I'm more disturbed to hear that the FO is thinking that trading the 2022 batting champion makes sense. Arraez is an on-base machine. Bottom line for me is that Correa is a meaningful addition but won't turn the tide by his lonesome. The most meaningful acquisition is probably the new trainer if he can keep players healthy. -
I think your 10 year plan makes sense to both sides. The only tweak might be to have an option that gets CC involved also as a coach and, later, some kind of FO presence if the honeymoon doesn't crash to an end and if he stays the course despite the opt outs. Most long-term Twins segue into some sort of relationship with the team, whether it be spring training consultants, commentators, or what-have-you. Correa, aka Dior, wants more than money; he wants respect that's flagged with precise acknowledgments of his expertise.

Should The Twins Bring Back Taylor Rogers?
Thebigalguy replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Trading away Rogers was ridiculous. At least when they traded Pressly they got good return, though a bullpen with those two would be wicked. If he's affordable as a free agent, do it. Maybe he can replace the incomparable Pagan.- 22 replies

His bat speed lessened. His discipline was never what it might have been. Paul Molitor had him figured out. He said that Sano and his agent (Rob Plummer, who has his own problems) decided that he had made it and he could relax and live the dream. Molitor suggested that attitude would be his undoing. The Twins would be better off if Molitor was still managing the team, but that's an argument for another day. In this instance, the man was a prophet. Sano's career isn't over. Maybe this wakeup call will give him some motivation. I wish him luck.

I have Ryan ranked higher as a SP. Correa won't be back. I see Kepler coming back for one more year without the defensive shift. Rodon would be great but we don't need him. What we do need is long term health and better coaching/managing/training room personnel. let the SPs go more than 5 innings when they're in the groove. Manage the way Gordon Lish edits, by deep instinct and not by computer algorithms. We have the players to get us where we want to be. They won't get us there if miscoached or allowed to fester on the IL too often.

Twins Trade Candidate: Max Kepler
Thebigalguy replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I expect the Twins will keep him one more year. He'll benefit now that the shift is limited, though why players are too stultified to beat shifts I've never understood. Bunt the damn ball when they shift! His defense helps the pitchers, especially if Buxton in center can stay healthy. The only thing that falls is rain. Of course, as so many of you have speculated, there's no reason why the Twins can't entertain offers if they let it be known he's available for the right player(s). Some teams with sterling hitting coaches might take the bait in the hope that they can transform him into what he was for one, glorious, pre-contract-extension season.
