  1. Cy Young, twice. No hitter. Domination like nobody else for several years. HOF? For sure.
  2. Thanks for this information. It makes sense. They want him back but at reasonable terms, considering how many unknowns MLB faces in 2021 without the vaccine in full force until, possibly, mid-summer or even later. Wisler is a small piece of the puzzle, either way; it's Rogers I'm anxious about.
  3. I argued elsewhere that non-tendering Wisler is dumb, but thank you for this extensive analysis. I still think he's worth the risk, given his performance, though the FA class at his position might be the crucial factor that got him axed. If other GMs think as you do, though, it might be that Wisler might still be available to the team on the cheap. Nobody can know quite yet when vaccines will take us to herd immunity and allow full stadiums and a season that's not shortened by many dozens of games. Too many Americans are incapable of trusting epidemiologists and scientific acumen; only the vaccine in this country will bring Covid to its knees, and that will take time to manufacture and distribute. We need baseball this year. Here's hoping it can come on its usual schedule, with or without Wisler.
  4. Dumb not to tender Wisler. Otherwise, I can't disagree with not tendering Eddie R. If his ego can take it and he doesn't get a whammo offer elsewhere, he might be back for a year. Can't see 29 teams passing on Wisler. Nobody can know what the season holds in store until vaccinations get us to herd immunity, and that might not be until September. Agents aren't pushing the limits this year. It would be dumb to do so. I'm hopeful 2021 will be a good one for all of us after the pandemic, but too many questions and timelines to make deals set in stone easy to make.
  5. I've been a Bert fan. I like cranky commentators who take no guff from the newbies. That's why Jack Morris is so much fun. They know the game inside and out and they're old school, which means some of what they say could be presented with more finesse, but they're generous to players even as they call it the way they see it. We've been lucky to have him in the booth. The others don't hold a candle to him, but color commenting is a learning curve, so they'll get there if they take advice and put in time on their craft the way they did on the field. Best good wishes, Bert.
  6. I am worried about Rogers, though relievers do have hiccups. I think we should stay in house. I expect Rogers to come around. If we trade, I don't want to lose anything valuable in a season like this one, when even a Series title will come with an asterisk. I do have faith in Falvine, though, given their track record so far, but I've never quite forgiven them for trading away Pressly to the Astros. If Alcala can get it done this year, however, all is forgiven and I'll tip my hat to them, especially if Celestino proves his worth. In a season like this one, my advice is to keep what you have and play it close to the vest.
  7. Great decision. My respect for the Twins has grown. I can admire them on and off the field. I think even crusty Bert Blyleven put it right when he said it's time for teamwork in this country, not division. I'm keeping that remark in mind when I vote.
  8. Great response to a great response by the Twins players and team to injustice. The team did exactly the right thing. I'm a patriotic American. Too many people recently have wrapped themselves in our flag while condoning racism and injustice. This is the least the team could do. It's Friday now, and I wish I could say we could get back to baseball, but now it's the weather forcing the game to be postponed. What a year to endure, but at least we have a team to cheer for both on and off the field.
  9. Bauer is trouble. The coaching staff won't cotton to a pitcher thinking he's a better coach than the pitching coach. We don't need a grandstander, however good he is. Let Bauer be Bauer someplace else. Lynn was a flop for the Twins. Let him be Lynn someplace else. The Twins have the horses on staff. It's a question of getting them ready. Right now the bats are quiet and need some snake oil. Too many two and three run games. Again, though, we have the horses on staff. Let's get them ready to rock and roll. The Buck stops with Buxton. The Sun rises with Donaldson. Kepler's in a slump. Garver was lost at the plate (or injured). I like our chances with what we have if they play up to form.
  10. Like many, I'm worried we won't have a full season even of 60 games. The Marlin news is ominous, though I don't know how disciplined they've been with the protocols. I expect some bumps, but it's great to have baseball back, however long it lasts. I don't see Sano going anywhere this season. Rogers will get his chances. Cruz could be MVP despite his DH status, given how strange the season is anyway, if he keeps walloping the ball. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cave out there with Kepler and Buxton and Rosario playing less if Eddie can't get it together. And yes, Maeda was good to see in form, though last season Berrios sometimes had a problem keeping an early lead, too. Just glad to see the team on the field, though the cardboard cutouts are absurd. I hope the Twins just make some ad money by putting logos on the seats. It was, all in all, a happy weekend.
  11. I was proud of the pre-game to honor the movement for justice. Jackie Robinson would be proud, too. And then Max’s first pitch homer. The men of summer are back; let’s hope they can play without incident. Could this be the year they get past the Yanks? As for Berrios, this isn’t the first time he’s given up an early lead. With the pen this year, I’m not worried. He’ll figure it out.
  12. My opinion is that every player needs to think about his health first. That goes double for coaches and staff. The virus is a killer of truly historic proportions. In Sweden, they're doing business as usual, hoping for herd immunity. The most deaths there, predictably, have been among the most vulnerable. Baseball isn't usually a contact sport, but players congregate at home plate and on the base paths. Not sure what the "new normal" dugout will look like. Will players wear plexiglass shields? They'd have to be glare-proof. Many coaches are older and more vulnerable. Will they coach from a safe space? Will the injury list include "covid-19 infection"?
  13. I’m cautiously hopeful. The players are young and strong but not so the staffs or umps. It would be strange to have baseball without fans but good to see games while housebound. Or fans might be allowed with distancing. Either way, it’s a year with an asterisk. Let’s hope a viable mass-produced vaccine is available By spring 2021.
  14. Great analysis. Of course, we’re waiting to hear if Mardi is a Twin or not.
  15. This is great fun. How did Boston become so dysfunctional so soon after a Series? This is win-win for the Twins unless they blink. Graterol’s healthy and exciting but has questionable durability. Surely the Sox knew that. This is poker, pure and simple, unless Falvine was hiding something.
  16. I can’t fault it if Graterol blows his arm out. Maeda salts the rotation the way lye makes lutefisk. It sounds good but chewing on it might be a different proposition. It’s done. No going back. We have the bats. A better defense. Solid pitching. Graterol? Who’s he? Play ball.
  17. By now, we know this signing is typical of Falvine's MO. There's little risk involved. The upside is if he finds his 2018 form. If he doesn't, either he can help until Pineda is back or can be sent down. He's one of many options. Falvine has a philosophy: throw them all at the wall and see who sticks. There's no ace in that deck, but somebody will heed the call, you all.
  18. I don’t believe in counting minor league chickens until they hatch in the majors. Eddie’s year was an odd one, undervalued given his defense and the fact that he was only one of many bombas. But he’s a major league talent, not a prospect. This year will tell the tale; if the team contends, he’ll be a factor. If not, and he plays up to speed, he’ll have real trade value and it’ll be time to cash in. I’m spoiled: I moved to Minnesota in 1985 and saw two world championships in seven years. It’s fun. I want the youngsters among us to experience that kind of run. This could be one of those years and we need Eddie until we don’t.
  19. Great analysis. And a great signing worth celebrating.
  20. Falvine, like Bob Dylan, know what they’re doing. Just as Johnny Cash told music fans to trust Bob, I think this baseball brain trust are thinking that we need a team that competes every year. I agree. Big fish seldom pan out for these snakebit Twins. The farm system, like Mighty Mouse, will save the day.
  21. Intriguing. Thanks for thinking them up. I wouldn’t give up top-10 prospects for aging pitchers. Falvine are cautious and I like that. I think they expect to develop an ace. Given the solid staff they’ve put together, I’m good with that. As for Buxton, I love him out there in center for entertainment value alone, assuming they can sign him long term.
  22. It's a dumb rule. I assume they want to speed up the game. For me, baseball is the most exciting sport due to pitcher/batter face-offs. There's already so little for a manager to do. Strategy is everything in baseball. Oh well. I used to care, but things have changed.
  23. Persuasive writing. The starting pitching last year was patched together. I see no reason why your lineup can’t be the default one as Falvine negotiates, but I also see no reason to settle for what we have. Gibson was ill but he’s an enigma. Perez fell off, Pineda of course was suspended, and even Berrios became inconsistent. He might still be the ace, but it wouldn’t hurt to have another one. Hitting is less complicated, though a dead ball that limits homers would impact last year’s bombers. So I can go along with you but hope for improvements.
  24. I mostly like this. They could do worse than hire you. I don't like Bauer, both for the reasons above and because he's so convinced he's smarter than everybody in the room that he might be a problem when he decides to coach the other pitchers for free. I do like keeping Gibson if he's reasonable (and how could he not be, given this past, lost year?). Your list makes it clear there's a lot of decisions ahead for the front office. The hot stove league will be especially interesting this year for the Twins.
