  1. A CJ Cron trade seems more likely. Right handed hitter w power. Wouldn’t cost a lot. Only make a splash trade if the team is positioned to make a World Series run, which this team isn’t.
  2. Miranda, Larnach or Wallner and a low minor leaguer seems fair for Carlson, who hasn’t proven himself. Raya and Festa should be untouchable since their minor league pitching depth seems thin. Maybe Varland or SWR could be a part of a trade too. But keep your stud minor leaguers.
  3. They paid Gallo $11 million this year, so cutting him and bringing up Larnach or someone else means they still pay Gallo but have to pay another player on a rookie contract. That would be cheap on their part. It would also mean that the Gallo signing was a FO mistake.
  4. Hicks was a bad trade for sure. The Arraez trade is too early to judge, though they could sure use his on base approach right now. However Pablo Lopez has an upside and I think will win a lot of games. The Berrios trade isn’t just about who they got, it is also about the salary. Do you want to pay him almost $19 million for seven years to win 13 or 14 games? He is clearly at best a number 3 starter. Or should the Twins use that money for upcoming contract for Joe Ryan and Bailey Ober. And Berrios wanted to be a free agent anyway.
  5. Lee is a doubles machine, a sign of a good hitter. Now just add a little more loft to those doubles and he’ll be a 25 home run player.
  6. No to trading Kiriloff for Goldy, especially if it included Raya or E. Rodriquez. Only make a deal like this if Twins are a real World Series contender and Goldschmidt is the missing piece. But they are just a 500+ team given the poor play of Correa and Buxton.
  7. I’d be more interested in Goldschmidt than Arenado because he can play first, leaving Lewis at third. Would Larnach and Julien get the deal done? I really like Julien, but his defense is suspect. Twins don’t have many pitching prospects left after last year’s trade debacles.
  8. I would love it if Skenes is available! He would be the only person in the organization who would be considered an sure ace. The problem w any pitcher, especially one with a triple digit fastball is the possibility of TJOHN. So that has to be factored into the equation. Regardless, run to the podium if he is there!
  9. Berrio’s contract can’t be ignored in this debate. His mediocre production doesn’t yet justify 7 years and $131 million. His ceiling is as a number 3+ starter. For every ten starts he has 2 that are very good or excellent, 2 fairly good, 3 mediocre, 1 or 2 below average and 1 or 2 where he gets pummeled. Not sure that justifies his contract. I like Pablo Lopez’ upside more than Berrios’.
  10. A Meyer pick would surprise me. But doing an under slot deal to make a splash at their next pick would be interesting to follow.
  11. Baseball player development is the long game. You don’t draft for need at the top of the draft, but rather talent and tools. You won’t find any ML ready plug and play guys in the draft unless it’s a once in a generation Ken Griffey Jr. And even he needed some time to develop. If the Twins don’t have a clear favorite at five, where they rank a lot of guys equally, then maybe offer the first pick a lower number and use what they saved for a higher bonus on a later pick.
  12. I do like the idea of taking an accomplished college pitcher w a mid 90’s fastball and plus secondary pitch who is almost major league ready. Lowder and Dollander fit that description, though Dollander’s mediocre season has seen him slide on mock drafts. However, take the player with the highest upside and a track record who has more than just power. No more Sabatos please, one dimensional base cloggers who hit .220 and strike out 40% of the time. We already have those guys in the bigs. I’m guessing they will take a college bat like Jacob Gonzalez or Kyle Teel, assuming the top three are gone and they are not sold on Clark or Jenkins.
  13. Good article. Suggestion: It would be nice to include what their pitch mix is, especially fast ball mph or their dominant pitch.
  14. We wouldn’t be having this discussion if Correa and Buxton were both hitting .250 instead of below .220. I think Gallo is more likely to be dfa than Kepler. He is a left handed Sano from the plate, piling up strikeouts, with better defense.
  15. No on Wilson because he doesn’t have multiple plus tools. I do understand how they might want to draft a fast rising college player at five over a high school player. But just choose their highest ranking player still on the board with the pick.
  16. I was hoping for a description of the pitchers’ repertoire, what kind of breaking ball do they throw? Knee buckling curve, hard slider? What kind of change of pace pitch do they have? Especially fast ball speed and movement, since that can what separates them. Do they have a solid three pitch mix? I’m also hoping that Enlow gets a shot this year. His stats say that he is doing well. What is his fastball velocity sitting at after TJ surgery? Good column though.
  17. A polished college player from the top five is my first choice and hopefully one of them will be available.
  18. I’m not sure how people posting here are able to assess any outfielder’s ability to get a jump on the ball. Of course maybe they are professional scouts who scouted in person or are knowledgeable baseball coaches themselves. The rest of us can only go by what we read and maybe have seen a few games on TV. It would not surprise me if the team passed on a consensus top five player to save some money that can be used to sign someone else. Teel might be a fit there. That said, we have to trust that Falvey won’t screw it up and the number five pick will be a strong contributor at the big league level.
  19. The Twins would never consider trading Lewis or Lee for Goldschmidt as someone suggested. With Goldy’s $22 million contract for this year and next it would be a salary dump for St. Louis. Maybe Larnach would get a deal done, who seems to be a young version of Joey Gallo without the gold glove defense. And the Twins have other lefty power hitting outfielders like Wallner, who I think has a higher ceiling than Larnach. Goldschmidt’s bat would clearly be an big upgrade from Gallo, and Kiriloff could play the outfield to make room. That said, this team has sputtered offensively all year, mostly because Correa and Buxton haven’t produced. Unless those two guys get going this is a .500 team at best and is going nowhere if they make the playoffs. Hopefully the FO understands that and doesn’t continue decimating the minors in hopes of winning a playoff series.
  20. At number five you have pick the highest ceiling guy, an impact player. My guess is the Twins will take whomever is left from Clark or Jenkins, assuming that Crews, Skenes, and Langford are gone. Lowder might be a possibility here, or Teel if they see him as a strong two way player, High school pitchers are a crapshoot. I would prefer a college pitcher over a high school pitcher like Meyer when picking this high. .
  21. I believe they will bring him back for 2024 because he has been a clutch player both this year and throughout his career. I don’t think they are ready to anoint Julien as heir apparent at second, and Lee is still playing at Double A. So Polanco is still the best option.
  22. Pagan can only be trusted in a mop up role with no game on the line and when the team is trying to save the BP. He has shown over and over again that he can’t be trusted in a high leverage situation. Why have a guy like that with no upside? Try a rookie in that spot and at least you are aiding in player development.
  23. No one is trading for Maeda coming off of TJ surgery. Polanco has shown that he’s a big part of the offense and his bat is needed. Kepler is clearly the most likely to be traded to a team that needs a lefty bat, but he won’t bring much. Rather than trading more prospects for BP help give someone like Blayne Enlow a shot. Unless the offense starts to click this isn’t a team that can make a deep playoff run so don’t keep trading top prospects just to lose in the first round of the playoffs. .
  24. The offense can’t continue to hit .150 w the bases loaded or w runners in scoring position, so I expect much better production there. Correa will start hitting and if Buxton ever gets healthy the offense should see a jump in production. So I don’t see a trade for another righty bat unless they trade Larnach. The bullpen is where they need an arm or two. Got to dump dumpster fire Pagan.
