If I was a player and knew of the current situation in the Twins organization, I would take less money to play for someone else. Buxton, Ryan and Lopez will be asking for a trade by next years deadline if they aren't moved this off-season. Possibly Jeffers too if he has a good 1st half.

Are you 100% certain that there were multiple guys interested in the manager job or did they hire the only one that was? Interviewing for and actually wanting the job are not the same. Could be after the interviews, they hired the only one who agreed to the constraints that Falvey has in place outlined in the interview.
-
Baldelli was fired because Falvey needed to save his own butt. Hiring Shelton only cements that theory. His excuse was the messenger wasn't doing a good job delivering the message to the players. Performance was poor. It couldn't be the players that Falvey has drafted or traded for. It can't be his plan for how the team plays. The process can't be wrong, he doesn't make mistakes. In Falvey's world, there is nothing wrong with the team or the process. He doesn't need someone new to make changes, he needed someone new to carry on the same old message while he saved himself.

I find it comical that some of you posting here think any of these 3 guys are going to make a difference. Reading your posts it's like you are expecting the team to be in contention for the division and we need them to put this team over the hump. 1.The Pohlads are not going to spend the money for any of them and 2.It won't matter if they did.

With no chance of competing in 2026 they could also opt for Glen Perkins and Eddie Guardado. What was the purpose of trading the bullpen they had for the AAA pitchers they got if they aren't going to give them a chance? Falvey's usual old veteran dumpster diving will not improve the team going forward. Sorry Cody, but "The Best Bullpen in Baseball" hasn't worked. Bringing back the same guys isn't going to work a 2nd or 3rd time. In 2026 they need to let the young guys play so they know what they have for 2027 and beyond. That is the only way to get any value out of the 2026 season.

The biggest question that will give me the most answers: What are you going to do differently than Rocco? Because if he says he's not going to change much, then I know he just Falveys puppet #2. If he says everything, then I will expect meaningful change. Anything in-between those 2 answers and I don't have much hope because pretty much everything needs to change to get the ship back on the right track. I fully expect that he would say, we are going to continue the process we have in place and try to get better results. Because that is 99.9% why he was hired in the first place over someone without organizational ties.

BREAKING: Twins to Hire Derek Shelton as Manager for 2026
rv78 replied to knothole61's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Why would Falvey choose a proven loser over everyone else? Because he's a Falvey "yes" man. After your #1 (Rocco) is used as the fallman for your failures you don't hesitate to go to your #2 man (Shelton). He can just as easily be thrown under the bus. Don't get me wrong, I didn't care for Rocco so I'm not defending him. I just see no difference between him or Shelton. This totally means Rocco was fired because Falvey needed to do it to save his own job. Hiring Shelton, who has no proven success managing at the major league level changes nothing and proves Falvey only hired him because he'll be another "yes'' man and eventually another fallman.- 250 replies

LOL! Seriously? Improvements need to be made in every one of these areas: #1. Owners #2. Front Office #3. Manager #4. Fundamental Baseball #5. More Talent #6. Better Health #7. Player Development The Manager is the only thing being addressed. A WS won't happen until all 7 have been changed for the better.

Twins Managerial Race Comes Down to Swimsuit Competition

The talent competition will be limited to butt kissing. Falvey has assured all those involved that the best butt kisser will win the job regardless of who wins the swimsuit competition.- 7 replies

The Twins and the Illusion of Hope in a Rebuild
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There is always the chance that they don't turn into the type of players we want, hope for, been told they will become. That's the way it is with prospects. What we don't need are older washed up veterans blocking, first their chance to play, and second their playing time once they get here. Take Larnach for example. He's been in the majors for 5 years and it took until his 5th season before he got over 500 plate appearances in a season. In the 2021-2024 seasons he was platooned to the point of never getting consistant at bats due to the analytics of Falvey and Rocco. Does anyone really know if he has reached his peak as a MLB player? With his limited playing time it's very likely.... THEY STILL DON'T KNOW. When it takes 5 seasons plus, to find out what you have in a young player it puts you on the slow road to a championship that will likely never happen. Filling the roster with 1 year floor type veterans to keep your team at the status quo, (which is all they have done) hinders your development of your younger players. It gets you where they are today..... Hoping players like Lee, Lewis, Wallner, Larnach, Martin can become difference makers instead of already knowing by now if they are or are capable of being so. Sorry, it shouldn't take 5 seasons to find out what a player can do for you. Hrbek came up in 1981 and in 1982 he had almost 600 Plate Appearances at the age of 22. Gaetti was exactly the same. Brunansky started for the Angels in 1981 with 41 PA's and came over to the Twins and had 545 PA's for the Twins at age 21. Puckett in his rookie season got 583 PA's. If you want your young players to develop and find out what you have, you gotta let 'em play.- 61 replies

The Twins and the Illusion of Hope in a Rebuild
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Falvey doesn't do rebuilds. He builds perrenial contenders. That is what we were promised when he and Levine took over. A perrenial contender. In his 9 years, they have been to the playoffs 4 times. 3 of the 4 times was in the first 4 years of his tenure, Only 1 of those times has it been in the last 5 years. This pretty much proves the players leftover from the last regime were better than what he has brought in. When you take over a team and it gets worse instead of getting better you are failing at your job. The Pohlads don't care or Falvey would have been fired along with Rocco. These are the players Falvey brought into the organization since the start of the 2025 season in no particular order: Lovelady, McCaughan, Beede, Bride, Clemens, Wentz, Gillispie, Davis, Pereda, Hatch, Kriske, Cabrera, Bradley, Abel, Tait, Jimenez, Outman, Horn, Rojas, Roden, Mikulski, Mendez, Villoria, Armstrong, Gallagher, Lugo, Kreidler. Most are minor league fodder. 11 of them are 25 years old or older. The few that have already seen major league action have never been difference makers yet they will NEED to be if 2026 is not going to be another 90 loss season. So, I ask you, where is the improvement going to come from? Will Ryan, Lopez, Buxton, and Jeffers still be here in 2026? If not, this team could set the record for the most losses in a season. If 2 or 3 real difference makers are not brought in, this team won't be any better than last year and I don't expect the Pohlads to spend to make that happen and I don't expect Falvey to know how to do it even if the Pohlads would give him the green light.- 61 replies

Totally agree with Kevin Sheehan post. If we get Shelton or Rowson we get Rocco 2.0 with Falvey still in control. If we get Servais or Flaherty we might get change, and I say might because Falvey will still try to impose his will into their decision making. I just feel Servais and Flaherty would be more likely to push back against Falvey.

Is Carlos Correa the Best Shortstop in Twins History?
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks Steve J for that video. Brought back many memories. Makes you realize how inept the Twins teams are now compared to how they played back then. Correa had nothing over Gagne defensively. Watching Hrbek stretch for the throws was awesome. Twins haven't had a 1st Baseman like him since he played. Morneau was good but didn't play like Hrbek. Someone should show the Pohlads the crowds they had when they put a good product on the field and compare it to the miniscule crowds they have now. And then they wonder why the fans don't show up. The current team is a joke compared to those teams back in the late 80's and early 90's. Thanks Pohlads and Falvey. You have given us nothing.- 59 replies

Trading Ryan for an established player or two will NOT save any money. If they trade him for a proven veteran or two it will probably cost them more money than what Ryan is getting. That alone makes the possibility of getting 1 or 2 proven big leaguers highly unlikely given the Pohlads desire to cut payroll. This means if a Ryan trade happens, it will be for prospects. If you think the Twins are going to roll out the cash register for 2026 and bring in difference makers you're a fool. Trading Pablo will save them even more money. I don't look for either one to be on the opening day roster despite Falvey publicly saying that he wasn't going to trade them.

Hoskins played a full season last year and hit .214 with 26 HR. This year he played about half a season and hit .237 with 12 HRs. If the Twins want to lose 90+ games again next year he's a perfect fit. Borderline acceptable. Can't hit for average with an occasional HR. I fail to see how this is an upgrade. Might as well move Wallner to 1st and bring up Jenkins to play in the outfield. 2026 is a lost season anyway. Good time for Wallner to learn 1st-base and to see how Jenkins handles MLB pitching. Plus Wallner and Jenkins won't cost 8-12 Million.

It's not hard to understand when you look at the person in charge in the FO making the decisions. How many prospects that are considered shortstops has he drafted that can't play the position at a major league caliber level once they get to the majors? What is his infatuation with lefthanded hitting corner outfielders? Or any player he drafts or trades for that is a defensive liability. Guess what happens when all of the sudden they can't hit either? They become replacement level type players that no team can win on a consistant basis with. That is the current state of the Twins and Falvey constructed it. The next NEW Manager will have to be a magician to get the current players to hit better, field better and win games when it counts. Good Luck!

The Middle Matters Most for Minnesota Twins in 2026
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If up the middle is the most important then the Twins have a long way to go. Didn't we have Correa and Buxton for a good chunk of the season and it still didn't matter. In reality, defensively they are pretty weak at every position on the field except in CF when Buxton isn't hurt. Put his injury history into the equation and CF still doesn't look very solid. The bigger problem is that outside of an unproven Keaschall and an injury prone Buxton, the offense is just as much of a nightmare as the defense is. It's going to take more than 2 or 3 different players playing better defensively AND offensively to turn this team around. Everyone wants Lee and Lewis and Martin and Jeffers and (insert any Twins players name here) to play better defensively. But that isn't going to score you anymore runs. Which one of the aforementioned is going to become better offensively too? Improving the defense alone isn't going to make enough of a difference by itself. Falvey has to stop going after guys that hit .150 to .200. For some reason he thinks they can turn them into star players. Sorry, you can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.- 29 replies

I would go so far as saying he is the current "L"eader of the club. "C"aptain? Not so sure he is worthy. If Killebrew has been the only Captain and it takes credentials the likes of Killebrews to be named one, then Buxton isn't close. I don't deny his loyalty at this time but he should be loyal due to the Twins continuing to keep him through all of his seasons when he was a part-time player. I find it ironic that after he finally played in the 2nd highest number of games in his 11 year career, 126, (still not really a FULL season) that he is somehow worthy of anything other than a sigh of relief that he played as much as he did.

Twins Claim Versatile Ryan Kreidler, Make More Minor Moves
rv78 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The fact that a player like this is making news on this site says everything you need to know about the current state of this organization. Time to face the music. If Lee is the starting shortstop in 2026, Fitzgerald is the backup and behind him is this guy. then it's pretty crystal clear there's no hope for 2026 and if you are thinking differently, you're drinking too much Kool-Aid.- 69 replies
