    I assume the author of this piece drew the short straw at the TD staff conference call yesterday and was forced to carry the ‘write something good about this’ mantle. I’ll cut Eric some slack. Meanwhile, let’s all take a moment to rejoice in the fact that, um…well, you know, it could have been worse.

    I see the Polads retaining control as making a move less likely even in the medium-to-longish term. Also, Oakland isn’t happening as the lead photo suggests. Somewhere like Raleigh-Durham or Nashville being way more likely IMO.

    The pitcher that stymied the Twins for 5 innings last night (and that you’d never heard of) is one month YOUNGER than Prielipp…and chosen 5 rounds later than Prielipp in the 2022 draft. One, always reject the narrative this org has any special ability to identify and develop amateur arms. Two, reject the narrative that Prielipp has been ‘dominant’ in AA this year. He hasn’t been. Due to the injuries, Prielipp was a lottery ticket draft pick…albeit high-ceiling lottery pick.. And, again in large part due to injuries, he remains a long-shot as a starter.

    The sad part is, the org has us conditioned to almost HOPE for a trade (as opposed to letting him walk after 2027). If he keeps this up, history tells us that there’s zero chance the Twins pay the price to win the free agent auction. You can hope for an extension, but that ship has sailed. As long as he’s healthy, he has zero motivation to extend. So fun to watch pitch.

    Of all the legitimate reasons to dislike this administration and their recent actions, which could include reasons like “Varland is pretty good and might get better”….the “they traded one of us” is the stupidest and least legitimate.

    If the Twins were a publicly traded stock, how much would it be down right now!? A ton, but not so much that you wouldn’t continue to short it. They found someone to inject enough capital to cover their debt. Yay!

    I agree…kinda. But he’s 25 years old next year. If he’s so talented, it’s time to make a call and use him…or at least find out that he’s not as talented as we thought. Even if that means he’s in the Twins bullpen.

    It terms of commitment to the craft and willingness to go the extra mile to improve and/or gain an edge, never bet against someone that was an elite wrestler. The work ethic and mental discipline/toughness tends to be off the charts. I’m sure the ceiling isn’t quite as high as it might seem right now. But whatever the ceiling is, you get the feeling he’ll be able to get there if he can remain mostly healthy.
