Milone for Fuld?  Freakin brilliant.  Milone not any good?  I'll take 6-0, 2.61 ERA since early May over 3/5 of what we have in the starting staff right now.

As for Mr. Moneyball, I guess it's much more important to win the free agent/trade races than to actually win playoff series.

I like the Fuld/Milone trade. 3.84 career ERA looks pretty good.

Milone has a career 3.84 ERA.

Arroyo, 4.19 ERA signed a 2 year deal @ 11.75M a year

Feldman, 4.60 ERA signed a 3 year deal @ $10M a year

Nolasco 4.37 ERA (before this year), signed a 4 year deal @11.5M a year

I think the difference between free agency and the trade deadline is teams in the hunt A) have pretty good starting pitching and b are looking for really good upgrades.

In free agency, you have 30 teams and 10-15 of them have starting pitching needs (the worst from the previous season) and they are all bidding on 8-10 guys.  That is why you see silly contracts.

Well, there went Willingham's biggest suitor. I guess the M's or a darkhorse could get something done, but I'd be surprised if he's moved after the Byrd acquisition by NY.

I would love for the Tigers to make that trade and completely dismantle their farm system. 2016 would be all ours!

With Lester and Lackey going this early, I think the folks at ESPN/Fox need to act like Price might get moved today to keep people engaged.  I doubt he moves.

It seems that the Twins have an excess of starting pitchers.  I wonder if they trade one or two for CF?

While I tend to agree, Milone would get decent money in FA, it would be better to use ERA+ to compare.  He's behind Arroyo in that measure, and just a bit ahead of Feldman.

 

 

Maybe a Hughes-esque 3/24, up to 3/30?  Same age as Hughes last year, obviously better than Hughes 2013, but perhaps less pedigree/upside which still might count for something at age 27.

Yeah...in the ballpark with guys making $10-11.75M a year in that stat as well.  Milone has a career ERA + of 100.

Arroyo 103 ERA+ (11.75M)

Feldman 95 ERA + (10M)

Nolasco 91 ERA + (11M)

Seems like we basically went out and got a guy that may put up the same numbers on a 3 year, 5-8M deal (3 years of arbitration until he is a FA in 2018)

You have a rotation of Nolasco, Gibson, Meyer, and Hughes plus a rookie (Milone or May).  The rotation will be at about $26M with Pelfrey sitting in the minors somewhere.  Looks like some money will be left over for the lineup.

Can we please extend this trade deadline another day or so? This is too much fun.

Other than Johnson (3) and Darnell (1) have the Twins had any other LH starts this year?

Question: Are you Over or Under for Milone getting that many (4) MLB starts this year?

If this group has any smarts, that had better be an 'over'.  I'd put him in the rotation before Pino or Johnson right now.

I'm not sure trading for a CF is smart right now. Santana is good enough for this year and maybe we still get to see Rosario in September. Next year maybe Rosario/Hicks/Santana rotation until Buxton if he is ready. I'd rather see that than trading for a guy.
