Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Hard-throwing relief pitching prospect Zack Jones will be having surgery on Monday (24th). If you recall, he was shut down late in the Arizona Fall League because his fingers were cold. Recenly, doctors found that he has an aneurism in his shoulder that is causing circulation problems. The surgery is Monday, and he has been told that he will likely be able to do no throwing for 6 weeks. Beyond that, no one knows. Jones was the Twins 4th round pick in 2012. Last year, he pitched in the back-end of the Ft. Myers Miracle bullpen, frequently throwing fastballs between 96 and 99 mph. Certainly we want to wish him the best through this process and hopefully he can get back on the mound quickly!!

diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Yeah, that's a dangerous one had it not been caught. The flip side is that it isn't structural surgery on the shoulder... not a medical expert here but it doesn't sound like the type of thing that would elicit long term concerns. Good luck to him.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 I'll try to keep fans update on how he is progressing.
ashbury Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 That explains his struggles. In the AFL. Presumably it became a medical issue quite rapidly, given his success at high-A earlier in the year.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Good thing they caught it. Didn't Guerra had a vessel issue in his shoulder (I think his was a clot) as well? Scary. Good luck to Zach.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 Jones tells me tonight that his shoulder is feeling a little bit better. However, doctors have now found a blood clot in his leg. Doesn't look like surgery on that, at least not at this time. It'll be a while before he heads to Ft. Myers and starts throwing.

He just needs to get this situation taken care of. Wishing him the best.
cmb0252 Provisional Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 A lot of arm problems so far from the 2012 draft.

Yikes, one life threatening problem to another.... Hope this is the last of it.
