Scott has 4 strong pitches and throws them all for strikes. He uses his height to advantage by coming over the top and adding a downward trajectory to all 4 pitches. He needs to keep the ball down consistently.

Against the Pawtucket Red Sox, Scott pitched 6 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Scott has now pitched 12.1 innings with out an earned run. The Red Wings win 2 - 1

 

April 16, 2012

The Empire State Yankees were at Frontier Field and Scott pitched 6.0 innings, allowing 9 hits, 3 runs - all earned, 1 homerun, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. The Red Wings win the game 5 - 3

 

April 22, 2012

In his forth start of the season, Scott pitches against the Lee Valley Iron Pigs. In 7 innings, Scott allows 4 hits, 0 earned runs however Lee Valley had 2 unearned runs, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts. Scott is credited with his 4th win in a row as Rochester wins 3 - 2. Scott has a 1.07 ERA after 4 starts this season

A game that started with so much promise, finished as a disappointing

After failing to get any of the first 10 batters to first base, the

Buffalo Bisons put on their timely-hitting shoes and touched Scott for 7

runs on 11 hits over 6.1 innings. 6 strikeouts and 0 walks are the best

parts of this game.

Scott pitched 3 stong innings against the Empire State Yankees tonight. A great outing, but short. Scott allowed 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 base on balls - one intentional and 2 strikeouts with his ERA now at 2.60.

 

Rumors are running in Rochester that Scott is being called up to Minnesota, so that is why he pitched a shortened game tonight.

 

If that is the case we are proud of Scott and wish him the best.

Tonight was a fun night at Target Field. Scott Diamond was in command for all 7 innings he pitched allowing 0 runs, 4 hits, one walk and 6 strike outs. Scott is the first starting pitcher to pitch for the Twins this season without allowing a run!!

With some great hitting and great defense the crowd all finally went home happy!!

Diamond's pitching was really fun to watch last night. It shows that you don't have hit hit the mid to upper 90's with a fastball to shutdown another team. He was on the corners most of the night and had solid defense (Dozier had a lot of action) behind him.

There continues to be great news from Target Field on Scott's second start, this time against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Scott pitched 7 innings, with 101 pitches thrown, 63 for strikes, 38 balls, 5 hits, 0 runs. Scott has now pitched 14 straight shut out innings in his 2 starts.

i have been extemely anti-Diamond....mainly cause Im tired of 88/89mph guys but mostly cause of his horrid yr @ ROC.

Looking back @ his ATL minor league #s.....he was pretty decent.

7.1 K per 9IP for his minor league career is pretty good for a soft tosser also.

It sounds like you think a 22 - 24 year old player can never improve, but Scott's coaches and record would indicate that this is just not true. Scott has had a tremendous if short AAA season, and has carried this success into the Majors.

I for one am welcoming his pitching with the Twins, in a season that had not too much to cheer about so far.

Scott is a dedicated, but humble hard worker that is improving and that to be celebrated. I am sure I am not alone.

I was talking about his 2011 ROC season when I was discrediting him.

Count me as one that hated dealing one of the organizations few hard throwers (and 2nd round pick) in Billy Bulloch for him & he stunk it up last yr, pure & simply.......then got a promotion IMO only to justify the trade (we were also runnin out of pitchers) and wasnt very good in Sept either.

It wasnt yrs 21-23 for me as I said, he had some decent seasons for ATL but was left unprotected after not being drafted. Not worth a young 2nd rounder IMO. Sure has proved me wrong....not unwilling to admit that.

I see in my original post I didnt give him any credit & I absolutely am.

Passionately hate pitchers who walk guys, so Diamond is my kind of pitcher......just frustrated with Twins lack of power arms. He had a solid K % in his minor league career & hope he can somewhat carry that over to help him out. Obviously, take him right now over the incredibly overrated Nick Blackburn & also over the much more talented Liriano.

Scott took the mound for his 3rd start since being called up to Minnesota against the Milwalkee Brewers at Miller Park tonight.

Scott battled during his 5 1/3 innings, but was able to keep the team in the game, and the teams offense certainly helped, allowing Scott to get his third win of the season and the team to have their first 3 game winning streak of the season!!

 

In 5 1/3 innings Scott allowed 8 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 3 strike outs, and 1 home run. Scott's ERA sits at 1.40

 

Interstingly enough Scott's bat figured into the game as well. In three at bats, Scott hit a single in the top of the 5th inning and scored on a Joe Mauer double. Scott's batting average sits at .333

Well tonight is not as much fun to write about. Scott battled to keep the Twins' in the game, through 6 innings, but with no offense and not much defense and some good hitting by the White Sox it all added up to a loss for the Twins.

 

Here is Scotts line for tonight.

 

6 innings pitched, 9 hits, 5 runs of which 3 were unearned, 1 intentional base on ball, 4 strikeouts and 94 pitches thrown of which 61 are strikes. ERA 1.78

Diamond got absolutely no help from the guys behind him, either hitting or fielding. I thought he threw a lot of good pitches, despite being in the stretch practically the whole game. No problems with base stealing either. He has command of all of his pitches and while he's not dominating, he looks like he can be decent or maybe better than that. It is tough pitching when it looks like one run will beat you and Diamond had to believe that pretty early in the game.

Scott took the mound this afternoon in a game at Target Field against the Oakland Athletics.

 

Scott had another quality start going 6 1/3 innings, giving up 3 earned runs, 9 hits, 1 base on balls, and 4 strike outs. He kept the game close and left with the game tied. The Twins took the lead and hung on to it in the 8th. Scott gets a no decision on this game but happily the Twins get a win and end a 5 game losing streak.

Minnesota Twins vs Cleveland Indians

 

I am away from home on holidays and so had to bring along my Sirus Satelite radio to listen to the game. Unfortunately I could only find the game listening to the Indians play by play announcers but the results were good for my favorite Twins player and they could not say enough kind words about Scott, as he pitched a great game.

 

They called Scott "Impressive" and said he was probably the best pitcher in the Twins rotation.

 

Here is Scott's line for today: 7 Innings pitched, 7 hits, 3 unearned runs, 2 strikeouts, 0 base on balls. Scott's ERA is now 1.86 With the Twins winning the game Scott is now 4 wins, and 1 loss.

 

Great game Scott and a lovely way to spend an holiday listening to a Twin's win!!

June 9th, 2012 Twins vs. Cubs

 

Another great team win! But this is the Scott Diamond blog.

 

Scott had another quality start today pitching 6 shutout innings against the Cubs, and leaving the game with a 11 - 0 score. Scott allowed 7 hits, 0 runs, 0 base on balls, 5 strike outs and lowered his ERA to 1.61

 

This was Scott's 7th start since being called up from Rochester, and now has 5 wins, 1 loss and 1 no decision.

 

Looking at the stats is quite fun when you see that Scott leads the team with a .333 batting average (okay, I know he only has come to bat 3 times since being called up, but that one hit does count!) Scott's ERA is second on the team behind Drew Butera's steller .000 (okay Drew's stats count too!) He is also leading the team in wins with 5, and is third on the team with innings pitched at 44.2 behind Pavano and Liriano.

 

In The 7 games Scott has pitched for the Twins, he has allowed 14 runs, 8 of them being earned, 4 homeruns and 4 base on balls with 27 stikeouts.

 

I wonder how Billy Bullock is doing this year? I haven't looked but have also not seen anyone questioning the trade this year. If I can find his stats it would be an intersting comparison.

 

Great work Scotty. You have been a great addition to the Twins and an exciting pitcher to cheer for.

Diamond does all of the little things pretty well. He was run on in one of his first two starts, but he seems to have a pretty good plan in holding baserunners. He not only has limited his BBs, but he's pitched ahead in the count and made hitters go after his pitch. He keeps the ball out of the middle of the plate, fields his position and seems to rise to the occasion when runners are on base. While he doesn't have dominant stuff, he throws hard enough to have a real difference in speeds between his pitches. I still don't think the outstanding ERA will last, Diamond will get hit at some point, but I think Diamond is a keeper.

Yeah, you gotta think this guy will get knocked around a few times just year. I just hope he keeps it going. We need a young reliable arm sooo bad, this would be really refreshing heading into next yeaar!

June 14, 2012 Twins Vs. Phillies

 

6 innings and 4 earned runs.

 

With the recent scoring power the Twins have been showing , this might have been good enough for another Scott Diamond win. But not on this night. The Twins could only find a single run, and Scott was left with the loss.

 

Scott gave up a solo homerun in the second inning, and a 3 run shot to former team mate Jim Thome in the third. For the rest of his 6 innings Scott demonstrated his usual controlled presence on the mound, and kept out of trouble. 5 hits, 4 earned runs, 1 strikeout and 2 walks complete his line for the night. Scott's ERA has 'ballooned' to 2.13; still best among the Twins' starters.

 

Next scheduled start is in Pittsburgh, where he'll have a chance to improve on his team leading batting average.

Tuesday, June 19, 20012 Twins vs Pirates

 

It was an 'ordinary' start for Scott. Not good; not horrible; just

ordinary. So ordinary in fact that I didn't get around to this post

until today.

 

Scott didn't seem to have his best stuff, uncharacteristically pitching

from behind to many Pirates. The offence was absent, the defence was

uninspired, and the pitching was not good enough to make up the difference.

 

 

Scott took the loss with an unimpressive line of 5.1 innings, 4 earned

runs, 2 walks and one lonely strikeout. His record now stands at 5 and

3 with an ERA of 2.57.

 

Can't wait for the next start against the Reds.

Sunday, June 24, 2012 Twins vs. Reds

 

Now that was fun! Perhaps 'extra' ordinary is a better word.

 

 

Scott pitched a very strong 8 inning, and the Twins brought great

defence and just enough timely offence to assure him a 6th win.

Thanks Josh W. Scott pitched consistently ahead with 79% of his 82

pitches finding the strike zone. He saw a number of major league

firsts today including:

• first 8 inning outing
• first 7 strikeout game
• first time plunking 2 batters in a row

  Scott's line showed 8 innings, 3 earned runs, 7 strike out, 1 walk and 1 home run. And that home run by Joey Votto was (in my opinion) quite a good pitch. Perhaps Votto was highly motivated after being 'schooled' twice earlier in the game.

   

  Scott's ERA now stands at 2.67. Sadly his batting average has dipped to .143 and hopes of leading the Twins in hitting are fading.
