Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 About an hour before the game, the Twins decided to scratch Joe Mauer from the lineup because of dizziness. He took one round of batting practice and felt dizzy. Other observers noted that after a couple of foul tips off of the face mask yesterday, he looked a little wobbly and was conversing with the trainer and teammates. Now, I absolutely think removing him from the lineup tonight was smart. It may create some alarm, and rightfully so. We don't want to jump to the conclusion that Mauer has a concussion, though the symptoms may point that way. By tomorrow, I would personally put him on the 7 Day DL if they can. I wouldn't mess with it at all. This team isn't competing. They can't afford now to play as short-handed as they are. Obviously most important, if it is a concussion, that's a brain issue that absolutely needs to be addressed for baseball purposes, but also for well-being reasons.
Alex Verified Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Agreed Seth. And even one of the things I thought that would have been another good reason for trading Morneau is the ability to save his health for future seasons by allowing him to play a bit more 1B.
E. Andrew Provisional Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Why, oh why, oh why did they have to call it dizziness. In this case, I would rather be lied to. Now I'm going to have to go to work tomorrow and listen to people throw another log in the 'Mauer's weak' fire.
