Sports aren't this serious man. It's all for fun. It's OK if someone doesn't like the same team as you. And no one is under any obligation to support a team due to proximity or nationality. 

This is an event, like the Olympics, that happens once every four years. I don’t know why people can’t just enjoy seeing the best of the best on the world stage without making it about nationalism. Yes, every country shows its pride, but I, for one, just enjoy the sport without feeling the need to wave the flag.

And I’ve never lived in Belgium, I had a boyfriend from there and visited. Beautiful country. And the best frites ever 🙂

Tomorrow’s games are Argentina v Egypt and Switzerland v Colombia. I’m guessing Argentina wins. I also pick Colombia over Switzerland.

I was still cheering for the US, but it felt dirty doing it last night. Just like everything else he touches, Trump ruined the awesome US Soccer vibe. Chip on their shoulder underdogs? That's what makes fans cheer for US teams.

Did anybody really want a huge asterisk next to a World Cup championship? Forget about how everybody has de-legitimized the Astros last World Series championship, the 1972 men's basketball championship being stolen for the Russians is brought up every Olympics. So is how Roy Jones Jr got the gold medal stolen from him in Seoul in favor of a South Korean boxer. I don't want a discredited champion.

Obviously would be a hard thing to do, but with hindsight the best thing Balogun could have done is feign an injury or otherwise refuse to play. He would have won huge support around the world and all ball knowers knew the US wasn't beating Begium regardless. 

Plus, we know he has no real connection to the country so he wasn't really doing it For Country. And I don't mean that as any sort of slight against immigration or anything political, just specifically his story where he was born here and chose to play for the USMNT out of eligibility and opportunity.

Oh, I was hoping for the team as a whole to come right out and say that he wasn't playing because any help from Trump is no help at all. 

And that would have won over the entire GD planet, even if they'd lost 5-1.

Well, I guess they would meet in the finals. I’m still cheering on Norway but it’s going to be a tough match to get past England and Morocco to get by France. But anything  can happen in a single game
