Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted January 17 Posted January 17 In this special episode, Brock Beauchamp and Matt Lenz break down the Twins' signing of Victor Caratini to a two-year contract. He's a capable backup catcher, but do the Twins want more from him, and does this mean a Ryan Jeffers trade is incoming? bunsen82 Verified Member Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I agree with most of what was said on the podcast. I posted in the signing thread, but this gives the Twins options. We have have a really strong Catcher duo for the year if we keep both. I am good with that. Caratini likely comes to the Twins because we were willing to offer the 2nd year. This was a case where the Twins needs, and seeing good value in a player, and a player wanting to capitalize on 2 year contracts matched up really really well. Worst case scenario is we try to stash Jackson and someone takes him off of waivers. What are we out - Peyton Eeles. That it allowed us to wait out and get a Caratini for 2 years I am happy with. If we can flip Jackson - great, if it allows us to trade Jeffers which we had no options at earlier this year for something useful for the future, its a great outcome. Brock Beauchamp 1
Brandon Verified Member Posted January 18 Posted January 18 no one talked about the timeline that Jackson was acquired when the Twins had no budget. So that we had a backup. The Twins now have a deep lineup and bench and rotation. We have lots of options for the bullpen. I think we sign 2 solid relievers or 3 is better and we go into the season as Contenders for the division title. I am wondering if the Twins keep Jackson as the third C and insurance in case we need a back up next year.
