Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 You’ve really got to be bad this year to be in the running for a top 5 pick. I can see the Vikings finishing with 1 maybe 2 wins. I could also see them losing out. You’d have to believe 4-13 would get them a great pick but they are so many teams with even worse records. Giants have just been eliminated from playoff contention Vanimal46 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 Sanders going to outgain McCarthy half way thru the 2nd quarter....maybe sooner....

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 How do you look the rest of the team in the face, and start McCarthy next week? What can you possibly say to JJ to keep him happy at this point?

He and everyone else must be looking at Jones and Darnold and wondering what could have been at this point.... Oh, great, we play SEA next week! Can't wait for that (good thing most of my friends out here aren't NFL fans).
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 Maybe shedeur will be so good, the Vikings could get Dillon Gabriel for nothing next year 😂 kidding Mike Sixel 1

I don' think they should, but they can't trade Jefferson even if they wanted to - $46MM dead cap if they do. Negative $51MM in effective cap space per Over The Cap as things sit currently. Trading Jefferson adds to that deficit Vanimal46 1

They immediately improve it by bringing in a guy who can be at least mediocre at the quarterback position. Players aren’t interested in the long term plans that some of us have. They want to go to a place where they can win, or at the very least not have negative yardage in a half of football. Vanimal46 and Mike Sixel 2

A great draft, clearly. 100% need to deal Addison and cut Hockenson, so there are two real holes (and both DTs they paid for this year, and maybe the C if he gets another concussion). Smith will finally resign, so there is another starter they need to replace. That's likely 4-6 starters they need to replace.....

Trading Jefferson adds to that deficit The cap thing isn't as bad as it sounds. There are several articles on that if you look. I don't think they'd trade JJ. The rest of the season is to see what they have in McCarthy. Also, I wrote this about KOC after the playoff loss - "I do hope we bring in another offensive mind to work with KOC and maybe even taking over play-call duties next year (maybe). I think someone from Cincy - similar offensive pieces, Buffalo - they led the league in blowout wins, which means they might be able to address how opponents get back into games, or Baltimore - Harbaugh tree. But if the only thing we get out of the last two losses is to blame it on the QB, we're not learning enough." Things are never as bad as they look. A different voice on the offensive side might be able to improve things as well. I suspect Flores won't get a HC job again so our defense will have some more stability. But, for now, JJ needs to show real improvement. Mike Sixel 1

Free agent QBs that give you something close to league average play cost money. They can't afford one. Their cap situation dictates that this is McCarthy's team for better or worse next year. Drastic improvement from him is their best bet at getting better for next year. They're going to spend next year's draft filling holes created by moving on from current starters just to get cap compliant. It's not ideal by a long shot, but they don't have a choice
