I am struck by all the comments about Falvey’s purported lack of trading prowess.  Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez, Simeon Woods-Richardson, Taj Bradley, and Nick Abel are all likely to start for the Twins this year.  They were all acquired by Falvey via trade.  I don’t love this front office but sometimes the comments about Falvey just seem like incoherent spew.

I hope they keep Lopez for the simple reason of what it says to Ryan.  Ryan already complained about losing Sonny Gray and if he sees another of his pitching buddies go, he WILL NOT extend with the Twins.  By trading either of our top starting pitchers, the Twins are saying we won't be loyal to you so no need for you to be loyal to us.  It's all about $ for this franchise.

While I agree with you on not trading Lopez, the chances of the Twins being able to extend Ryan are between slim and none - and if I were a betting man, I'd take the latter.

Re-signing Luis Arraez is one of those decisions I wouldn't even be surprised they made. Every media outlet is reporting that he's not as highly valued as people were initially projecting him as, so he'll likely sign for not as much compared to many other free agent options. He's technically considered a "top free agent," so it'd look good from Falvey's position since it'd give the impression that he's trying(even though we all know this wouldn't be that big of an acquisition). And with first base specifically, it doesn't really seem like there are many options on the prospect pool or current major league options to really fit every day unless we fast track an outfielder like Fedko or something to learn the position.

Arraez is a singles hitter with little speed who, as a result, doesn't show up anywhere near the leaders in runs scored for a season. I get that people enjoy watching him battle at the plate, but that's about as far as it goes. There's a reason his market isn't developing.

What you are suggesting is that Arraez’s glove isn’t good enough, but I think his bat might fit in good with the small ball DF wants us to play.  But he might be too expensive for the current MN Twins. I agree Lopez was a heaven-sent player!  I would hate to see him go!

The funny thing about Arraez is he really doesn't fit 'the small ball' model, because he is slow afoot. He's better suited to a team where he gets his single and the next 2-3 batters hit a home run.

I agree, I don't really think he's a great signing idea, just one I'd expect to be made
