I saw a MLB trade rumors article mentioning the Twins, specifically that we'd signed someone the Dodgers released from a verbal commitment, likely to save their pool for Roki Sasaki.

Not gonna try to summarize everything else. There are links to who all we've signed so far, and i bet names will be added between now and the next time someone checks it.

But yeah, i figured this was worth discussion....

I assume lack of discussion reflects the fact no one knows these players rather than no one uses this forum.

In the classic Sherlock Holmes mystery, "The Adventure of Silver Blaze," the master sleuth proved conclusively that the dog did not bark because the dog didn't exist.

Here is a breakdown by team:

Aside from the fact that there 300+ 16 year old signed on a single day reflecting a messed up system, it’s interesting to look at the breakdown of where these kids are from.

The vast majority are from the DR and Venezuela, maybe just ballparking here 50% and 45% respectively.

Cuba appears next, then Colombia (Twins have one), then Mexico.  Then there a few from Panama, and then really just a random assortment of countries; Japan, Aruba, Bahamas, Nicaragua, Korea, Australia, Taiwan, Italy, Haiti (Twins), and most unusual Uganda.

This seems like a pretty big market inefficiency.  Are 90%+ of the talented 16 year old baseball players in the world (outside of the U.S.) really from the DR or Venezuela?

I don't know.

I am sure there are lots of factors that go into national distribution of prospects signed.

And barking does usually have existence as a prerequisite. I sure hope Watson followed that logic.

Quite awhile back one team signed several Cricket pitchers, maybe the Twins should have a look at some Cricket player for fielding
