While rumors of Kelley Jansen being in the market have been swirling since the offseason, it may have been assumed he was off the market considering the Red Sox unexpected success in 2024. Instead, Jim Bowden of The Athletic wrote that rival executives believe "...there could be 'buyer-to-buyer' type trade this year..."

While the price tag is hefty in both salary and player capital, the former elite reliever has done exceptional this year sporting a 2.30/2.13 ERA/FIP with a 19.1-percent K-BB and locking down 15/16 save opportunities. He would be an expensive but great addition for any team who needs bullpen help. While relievers are volatile creatures, it's an added bonus that an acquiring team would only be tied to him for this season.

Sure he'd be a great get,if we could afford him. I think we need a lefty more. Someone like Aroldis Chapman or something. Power arm to stick in lefty leverage situations. Theilbar needs to go ASAP, and I don't trust Okert or Funderburk.

I'm okay with Jax, Duran (let him throw fastballs, please), Alcala and hopefully Brock Stewart will be ready to go in a couple weeks. Move Varland into the 'pen as well with Dobnak and Boushley pitching more than well enough in the rotation at AAA. Zebby Matthews is ready for AAA. Gotta make some room.

This. If they move Varland and Stewart is healthy, they have plenty of RPs, IMO.

If we acquired Jansen, we would be on the hook for almost 6 million.  I doubt we are picking up salary in season.  Maybe if we were on pace to draw 2.75 million fans give or take.  So we would have to give up salary or better prospects with Boston sending cash in the deal to make it happen.  The question is what do we have to give up to get him?  Would Varland straight up get us Jansen and cash to pay down salary? Would we need to add a low level prospect in the deal.
from Bostons perspective they may be trying to take advantage of the market with so many teams still potential buyers.
for the record my vote is to pass thou I am open to a value deal for us.
