Depends on if you think the bottom of the other team's batting order is pretty much the same as the middle.

But in the 8th inning its batters 3, 4 & 5, possibly bigger threat than the bottom of the order in the 9th.

My thought in looking at the Red Sox lineup the last two days is how top-heavy they appear to be. Using a somewhat lesser reliever for the ninth could make sense.
