GP830 Verified Member Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I wonder if the Nats would be open to trading Joey Meneses. He’s a right handed 1B/OF who had a WRC+ of 156 in 240 plate appearances last season, as well as 13 HRs. The Nats aren’t close to contention and may be open to moving him for some prospects. I hadn’t seen his name mentioned, and so I wanted to gauge others’ thoughts.

He was a career minor leaguer until the Nats plucked him out of the mass of free agents at age 30, although I seem to recall him being some kind of prospect for the Braves a decade ago. His minor league numbers make him look like a AAAA type who never got his cup of coffee before. All of a sudden his two months of major league numbers in 2022 look great, but based on a .371 batting average on balls in play, a number that is way higher than he had at AA and AAA the season before. All in all he looks like a severe regression candidate to me. I might pick him up on waivers if the Nats did that, but I wouldn't offer anything in trade. Good thought though.
TopGunn#22 Verified Member Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 The bar to clear is Garlick. Would Joey put Garlick back in St. Paul. Probably, but how big of an upgrade would he be? The same is true for Yuli Gurriel. Has age finally caught up with him, or does he still have a little bit left in the tank on a one-year flyer? The Twins are going to add a RH bat. Who else is a trade candidate?
