Dump Gardenhire now.

Was it a bad decision? In hindsight yes, but I can't pin this loss all on Gardenhire, let alone have it be the basis for his dismissal.

Let's give credit here where credit is due, and assign blame fairly. This wasn't a Gardenhire loss - it was a Scherzer win, helped by the Twins lineup going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. And is a 3-run homer by Fielder really so surprising? The guy is going to get his dingers regardless of who is pitching.

What color is the sky in your world?

is clearly a case of defend Mr. Gardenhire at all cost post..

Believe it or not , the other day I applauded him for

having waldos back and getting kicked out defending and defusing his Rook.

But he needs to play some better small ball , and manage his pitchers better.

he has missed bunt situations and as far as ive seen cost us 3 games at least this season

When Florimon stole 2nd , Dozier should have bunted him to 3rd, 1 out and your best hitter up?

Gardy's use of Pelfrey on Monday night was very similar to his use of Correia exactly three weeks earlier: trying to squeeze a few extra outs from a tiring starter in a jam in game 1 of a series, to marginally reduce the load on a bullpen that was already well-rested.

That time, we wound up getting swept by KC and our best relievers never even got into a meaningful game until 4-5 days later.

This time, Worley imploded in the following game (last night), and even if Diamond helps us avoid a sweep today, a scheduled off-day Thursday suggests it was doubtful all along that we'd ever see any benefit from those ~3 extra outs of reliever rest Monday.

Right. And don't we have a seven-man bullpen for just such circumstances? I doubt it changes Duensing's availability one iota if he comes in to get Fielder and Martinez, rather than Peralta and Kelly. The difference is, he leaves with the team ahead by two instead of behind by one.

I wanna see pelphrey bear down and get fielder out. Cant stand people always clamoring to yank the starter. Until recent years, gardy has always had the quick hook and he's always overused his bullpen. He's finally evolved as a manager and realized he has to get innings from his starters, and all people can do is bitch.

The statistics don't back up your statement about Gardy getting more IP from his starters in recent years. The last 3 years the Twins starters have averaged 5.9/5.4/ 5.4 innings per start If you go back to 2004/05/06 the Twins starters averaged 6.1/6.3/5.8 innings per start.

That doesn't indicate that Gardy has "evolved".He's pulling his starters quicker now than previously. I think it's simply because his SP is much worse now than back then.

If Duensing would have come in & gave up a HR to Fielder I would have NEVER bitched that he should have let Pelfrey stay in & bear down & get Fielder out. Pelfrey was gassed..Duensing was the correct choice.

Fire gardenhire! Diamond should never have come out for the 6th!

"Why is this game still in the hands of Doug Pelfrey?"

It has been a week and I still haven't seen a good answer to USArmyChief's question.

He's a 5 inning pitcher! Fire Gardy!

Yes, because the fifth inning and the start of the sixth on April 29 were so similar to the fifth and sixth in today's game.

I'm glad Pelfrey read Parker's post about staying on top of the ball, working out front good and getting that good downward plane. 'Cause he's suddenly the pitcher we all dreamed about in the offseason. Hopefully he can keep it up.

But he was a hot mess for his first five starts. If I were Gardy, I'd a been counting my lucky stars that the Tigers hadn't figured him out in the first two times through the order. But I wouldn't test fate. With Duensing ready, there aren't a lot of managers who would risk what Gardy risked there. Is it enough to get him fired. Hell no. He's done way worse, and not just for one game, for weeks and months (Juan Castro).

I'd like to pile on Gardy for the loss tonight. He again substituted Ramirez for Hicks, which resulted in a slower outfield. This potentially cost us the game because Hicks may have been able to get to the game winning hit. Plus, I saw no real advantage to having Ramirez hit because Hicks had looked pretty good at the plate in the game. I liked pinch running EE at the time and that did work out, but it was pretty embarrassing to watch Justin Morneau flail at balls outside the zone while Escobar continually was able to time Mortenson. If anyone should have been pinch hit for, it should have been Morneau.

By the way, this is the 3rd game that I saw a huge lapse from him that may have cost us the game. He can't handle players in the media, he's lost it in-game, and I don't see any reason to keep him moving forward. He's a hindrance.

They should have gotten Escobar into the OF by bringing Carrol in, but I doubt that ball is caught either way. I can't blame Gardy for PH'ing for Hicks. He's pretty close to hopeless left-handed.

In any case, Gardy's not getting fired mid-season. Just enjoy the season and queue your b1tchin for October.

His double that night was hitting left handed. Filling in for him was a right handed batter vs. a right handed pitcher. It was interesting to find out that Wilkin Ramirez has a reverse split though, but he doesn't have much of a career history to legitimize it. What also could have been costly defensively was that Parmelee had to make a diving catch on a ball that looked much closer to center field. Fortunately, he caught the ball, yet I still think that's a running catch for Hicks.

Then why is Hicks on the team? You need to give him some confidence there, not PH him for a never-will-be minor league scrub. This is the kind of crap I'm worried about: jerking around the young guys. He should go manage his daughters softball team before he ****s this one up permanently.

Bump. Not quite as clearcut, but I'd say Gardy played a roll in Tuesday night's loss to the Sox. By my count, that's at least 3 times and we're not through mid May.

Not as bad this time, but I don't think you can send him back out there for the 8th. We have some idea now that Correia's max effectiveness is roughly 6 to 7 innings.

Frankly, I'm surprised this thread wasn't blowing up again last night.

I think everybody just collectively *sighed* and decided there had been enough trauma for one night.
