It doesn't look like there is any hope for a regular shortstop in the higher minors. Danny Santana, who was billed as a possible long-term guy is struggling big-time in New Britain. He's hitting .214, without much power and has committed eight errors already.

Repeat from game thread: I'm to the point where I'm all for giving Escobar a shot at SS. But my guess is after a few weeks of him every day we won't like him all that much either.

That's my guess as well but as long as he doesn't commit bone-headed plays in the field, my vitriol won't be quite so intense.

Yeah, I guess there's nothing wrong with letting Escobar start for even a couple years and then be relegated to bench duty once we have our long term solution in place. He might not like it, however.

 

Then you trade your "established starter" for something maybe not quite as good as we got for Denard, and pick up your new utility infielder cheaply somewhere else. Nice problem to have.
