But when evaluating performance in terms of contributions towards winning, nothing a player did was more valuable. Nothing. 

Surrrrreeee... because Players control when other players are on base, right? It's just guys like Luis Arraez never told anybody to start the first inning on second base as if it were the start of the 10th.

No, the player with the bat controls whether or not those on base score, simple as that.
