yeah, that happened last night. The Jays are trying to do the same thing that the Twins did with Burnett. They're trying to get him through waivers so they can send him to the minors but keep him in the organization. He should pass through.

Baltimore will take anyone who has played for the Twins in the last year or so. I bet we would trade them Morneau for half the starting rotation!

No need to dangle Morneau. If they love Lew Ford, think of what we could get for Jeff Clement!

This is not worth opening up a new thread, but I'll offer the news update (which I didn't see elsewhere here) that the Orioles brought up Burnett when they sent down Jake Arrieta.

The Twins will rue the day they let Burnett slip to those hated Orioles.

I expect he'll actually carve out a career as a useful relief pitcher. He could pitch until he's 35, for a succession of teams two or three seasons at a time. 40-man roster rules and the state of free-agency seems to rule out developing a guy like him and keeping him for any length of time. Once a high-school prospect fails as a starter but is seen as able to relieve, the original signing team might just about as well cut him, like he's a bust, except he's not a bust. In Burnett's case, putting up below-par numbers as a major leaguer at age 22-23 sealed his fate with the Twins. It's an aspect of the game I don't like. Admittedly, no team rues losing a "useful relief pitcher" - they are widely available to a smart GM.

I don't know, he has a mediocre fastball, mediocre command, and not much for secondary pitches. He may hang on for a couple of years but he is about a perfect example of a replacement reliever that is available every offseason.
