One of the best days in sports

I think its because baseball is a right of passage during summer. The start of the baseball season reminds me of spring, summer, days at the beach, grilling with the game on the radio, fresh tomato basil salad, 90 degree days that make me wish it was winter for like 10 minutes... and many more. Baseball isn't just a sport for me, as I'm sure many, it is something I've grown up with and apart of my life.

And it's not because everyone believes they have a chance.

It's because it's the only day where every team sends out their ace, which makes for some good baseball.

...except for teams like the Twins who don't have one. Sorry, had to say it.

Glad someone made the we-don't-have-an-ace joke before I had to. :D I am so happy today is finally here. Maybe the Twins can pull an Astros today.

Preposterous. It's not one of the best days in sports. It's the. The.

Yes. Most life-affirming and rejuvenative day of the year is finally upon us- frigid weather be damned! This has to be the one day that all of the divided camps on Twins Daily can come together and collectively regard as Sacrosanct.

Every Year... I'm working opening day and saying to myself... I should take the day off.

Then I say to myself... Next year I will...

Today is opening day... And I'm at work once again...

Next year... I'm taking it off.

Its the greatest day of the year and it should be a national holiday!!!

That's an interesting perspective. One of the reasons I really like living in the Midwest (Michigan, now Minnesota) is the cyclical nature of the seasons and how you REALLY appreciate the summers. The return of baseball in Minnesota definitely seems "too-early-to-be-true", but it's a definite sign of a great time of year.

Baseball is the best "backdrop" sport there is - it's good to you whether you're at the game watching every pitch, or just have it on for a half inning at home while you're doing something else. Except for the All-Star Break, there isn't a period from now until October where the Twins aren't playing for two days in a row. That's pretty insane if you think about it, and also really awesome.

For me, it's THE best day in sports. Nothing beats opening day for me.

For the 1st 15 years of my military career, I made sure I took that day off...then deployments got more frequent and that stopped being possible...but I was off yesterday...and now that I'm retired from the military, I envision never working on opening day again... :-)
