Double Header Game Thread Twins @ Tigers 12:10pm cdt 8/28/2020ad

Why would playing two double headers instead of four single games benefit the Tigers? I guess I could see a slight shift in the odds due to playing fewer innings, but it still seems like a bit of a stretch to assume it would change a sweep into a split...

We're already lined up for a bullpen game on Saturday. If Dobnak only goes 4 there is cause for panic for the series. We already blew 3 games against a crap KC team. If the Tigers beat Twins game 1 they are going to be favored in at least one of the three remaining. Why 2x2 is different than 4x4 is because we could burn through 8 relievers in day 1 and only have a couple effective relievers left for day 2

Counterpoint: shaving two innings off of each game means that if we can get 5 or 6 innings from our starters, we'll only need the bullpen for 1 or 2 innings to finish out the game. Anyway, sounds like they've decided against the double double header this weekend.

Even though they've decided against the double doubleheader, it's fun speculating.

Taking only the games against the Tigers into account, I look at this way. The more innings the better, because if we have to get two more innings out of our pitching staff, so do they. I'll take my chances with our bullpen over theirs.

Fair point. I just hate the idea of losing a game due to a stress on our pen and then going to face a strong team. We need these 'easy' victories. We're a losing streak away from being post season guarantee to chewing finger nails in September

Yeah, I agree. It's the same as the idea that if you're the favored team in a series, you want that series to have as many games as possible because if you play enough games, the better team will eventually come out on top. That's why I'm so mad about the three game first round playoff series format this year, we're almost certain to see one of the top tier teams get dumped out of the playoffs by a couple of fluky wins by Toronto or some other middling team. And if our Twins happen to that team... Well, it's going to be another long, rueful offseason.

Concur on not liking the three-game series for that reason. With that as one more piece of uncertainty related to the playoffs, that's an additional reason why I don't want to give up assets to get a rental.

Yeah, this is NOT the season to make a move like that. With Big Mike coming back next week and most of the guys on the IL hopefully getting healthy soon, I'm hoping that'll provide the playoff boost that the Twins need.

I see the White Sox and Indians are both 20-12 after today's games, so the Twins will have to step up their game in these two doubleheaders. But also, the Yankees have lost 7 in a row! Always great to see them do poorly.

Ihadn't checked the standings in a while.

It is fantastic to see the division so competetive.
