Like him or not, sort of feels like Bert is being a bit un-ceremoniously dropped. Not sure that is fair.

 

Usually I would feel some sympathy toward Bert for being pushed out the way he is. But I don’t. Everyone on this board knows why he’s seeing a reduced schedule and he knows why as well. Last season, instead of making an earnest effort to learn some of the new metrics and philosophies, he seemed defiant in taking pride in being a Luddite. He’s getting a farewell tour instead of a fighting chance to show he can hang with people who care to learn more about the modern game.

There no reason to bash him, I suppose. Though the sense of entitlement that prevailed over his last few years won’t be something I find myself longing for in the broadcast booth.

Women have higher pitched voices than men. As we grow older that higher pitch gets more difficult to hear.  If Older Men are the majority of the current audience, a woman announcer will drive them away, because they won't be able to understand much of what is being said by the woman announcer.  When women say, "He doesn't listen to me any more." what they should be saying is, "He doesn't hear me anymore."

I really doubt that the higher pitch drives anyone away. Besides, if anyone has trouble it's nothing that the volume control on the remote won't fix.

Revealing personal baseball experiences, and over all baseball knowledge presented by Jim Kaat, Jack Morris, Dan Gladden & L. Hawkins are the most enjoyable listening for me. Morneau and Smalley although very informative, carry on too long to find their words to make a point; it tends to distract from the action taking place on the field and becomes annoying. Bremer is a good speaker and is informative regarding each player in the line up and on field action, as is Bert being Bert.
