"Taken hold"? The Quality Start stat is ancient.

Wasn't it 7 innings/3 ER until a few years ago?

I swear, this team should pay me not to watch innings. Caught that disaster second, missed the Twins scoring two runs. Caught the game just in time to watch Cruz leave the bases loaded.

I see the opposing team score as much as the Twins... which is pretty astounding, given that this team has THE BEST RECORD IN BASEBALL.

Well......... are you a Twins fan or not? What is the universe telling you to do? Are you listening?

From Wikipedia: "The quality start was developed by sportswriter John Lowe in 1985 while writing for the Philadelphia Inquirer."

I don't know about ancient, but it's certainly not recent.

Today I learned that I am not recent.

It's older than I am. It's ancient.

I’ve known of the quality start for roughly 20 years and it has always been 6/3.

I know this because I remember arguing its validity in the early 2000s because a pitcher could go 8/4 and not get a QS, which makes zero sense.

Heh, I deserve some mocking posts but in the world of sabrmetrics, 1985 is ancient (and my statement had more to do with the idea that the QS has anything to do with modern statistical analysis, as it predates that movement by a healthy margin).

It's not an official statistic. It's just an arbitrary thing that is used as a benchmark. So I don't stress much about it. (Even though I agree that your example doesn't make sense.)

That hit would have been my hook here for Perez. No reason to push one's luck here.

Yup! Definitely now............. that ball was crushed. One batter too late. sigh. Nobody even up. Now that is management, eh?

Please turn off your tv and go light the grill early and have a few beers.  I'll buy if you just walk away right now.

Yep, Falvey definitely dropped the ball when they selected Baldelli over you.  :whacky028:

oooooooo. Getting personal, now, eh? Sometimes fans CAN make a better call. Happens all the time, and not just me. And none of what I said was hindsight...... this time.

People may be grilling Perez, but let's not forget that the offense this series has been pretty dreadful. 9 runs through 22 innings against a team with over a 5 ERA is pretty bad for the Twins standards

Baldelli (probably) after the game: "Well sometimes the bounces don't go your way and you make some errors". This team has missed play after play this series. Talk to your team about the poor defense and give them mandatory fielding practice.

Hopefully we’ll play up to tomorrow’s competition since we spent the weekend playing down to kc
