Forum list page change and more ads?

Congrats on putting in more ads that move the screen content around, just as I try to click on content, so I end up following the ad.......

 

If my website ever starts attracting enough viewers to make money, I hope I find a way that doesn't involve this....

You likely will, as your site won't have 15-20 people touching in on a daily basis to make it work and 20-30 people touching in regularly to keep the content fresh.

 

I don't mean to sound like a dick here but Twins Daily is in a bit of a middle ground that's really hard to navigate. First off, we actually PAY our writers. We've had more than a few writers come to us from other, larger reaching and more established, organizations because we actually give the money we make back to them instead of expecting them to work 20 hours a week for $200 a month.

 

Believe it or not but that's actually the norm in this industry. We want to be better than that.

 

On the other hand, massive sites are able to maintain a staff and pay a few select individuals a working salary. We're not there, nor will we likely ever be. Those sites can afford to pay both tech and content enough to work them 40 hours a week with a decent salary.

 

I'm defensive because this **** is REALLY HARD. We're working outside parameters of pretty much everyone. And they're good parameters to work outside because we care more about the community than profits (as evidenced by every single owner of the site having an outside income that greatly outweighs what we take from this website).

I was specifically talking about the ads that move the page around, not TD or ads in general. It's a well run site. I have no issues with the ads at all, other than the ones that, after the page loads, right about when you want to write or click, the whole page shifts, and you end up clicking the ad. This is a known issue on the web, and it isn't easy to "fix".....so hopefully you know this isn't about you at all. 

 

I had 5 people lined up to write, now down to 1. that's the hard part for me.

And then there's this wonkiness, while using Firefox. And as I'm typing this, I get a message box that reads "33 New Replies" ... which happens when someone else is posting a message as I'm typing mine. But there aren't 33 new replies. Those are all the replies already here.

 

 

And I still have to scroll waaaaaaay down just to get the 'Add reply' button. This hasn't been fixed. That 1, 2, 3 business ... those are the pages at the bottom of a thread.

 

And the jumping around has gotten worse.

 

I get it ... I'm all for paying the writers more, they deserve it. But ugh ...
