Perry Castellanos, many other strength coaches let go

Running winter conditioning with mandatory workouts- how innovative.  Are you planning to make everyone live in Fort Myers, or just show up there four times a week?

Mike Trout trains in the winter using workouts designed by his personal trainer- the guy who was the trainer at his high school.  No one else is involved.  https://www.mlb.com/angels/news/mike-trout-workout/c-161491480

The Yankees have an exit interview with each player where the conditioning coach sets personal goals with them, then the next thing they do is they welcome them to spring training and see who's in shape.

Lots of ways to expect adults, especially adults who have been MVPs, to handle themselves in the off-season.

If visible evidence means anything, there absolutely is none to indicate that the Minnesota Twins had any strength and conditioning coaches to fire. These weren't paid positions, were they? I wouldn't be any less surprised if they had fired their scuba diving coaches.

I distinctly remember, prior to the fantastic 2016 season, there was an event at one of the player's apartments during spring training that involved getting together to watch "The Bachelor". Passing the TV remote around is great aerobic exercise.

"Hey Joe, do your pushup before you tee off. Don't forget".

I think Sano had a decent hand in failing himself, don't you think?  I don't know how Gordon has been failed by the organization, unless you mean promoting him when he didn't deserve it over and over.

I also don't see it with Buxton.

Dunno, I think they've done okay by Gordon. They've certainly challenged him but until he hit AAA, he adapted to the challenges well enough.

The second half swoons are becoming concerning at this point, though. I accepted them as a 20 and 21 year old but it's getting harder to accept and understand them as he ages.

Which brings us around to it possibly being a strength training problem so these firings make some sense to me.

What are the duties of a strength and conditioning coach? Who is the ultimate supervisor who sets the plan (the guy at the major league level or someone else?).

I know that the coaches are supposed to work individually with players, especially in establishing off-season workout and nutrition plans, as well as individual work and plans throughout the season. Talk about non-renewing your top four guys in this department. Will be interesting to see who replaces them.

Those are pretty much my questions too. I'd like to hear more details about what exactly these coaches do, how often they do, what the work involves, etc. Seems like a pretty vague job description with no accurate way to measure their performance.

Can I take this opportunity to offer up how likely is it that we hear a number of beat reporters in the Spring telling us from Fort Myers "Sano looks GREAT!" a la Delmon Young when he became skinny D for three months.

I can relate to this. I too once drove a Bentley. Once, being the operative word in that sentence. Likewise I had a troublesome woman. The problem is, I no longer have the Bentley, but I still have the troublesome woman! :)

We all make our choices. A troublesome woman can lead to many great adventures.
