Glen Perkins Retired?

According to this tweet from Granite City Sports (am1390 in St. Cloud, a station I'm on weekly during the season), Glen Perkins is retiring. Thad Levine told a group in St. Cloud today that the Twins closer will be welcomed back with a front office role if and when he wants.

In a follow up tweet, he said that it may have been "will retire" but commented that he is choosing to spend more time with his family now. 

 

This is consistent with what he told me in the clubhouse at spring training two years ago. He noted that he really admired what Brad Radke did. He could have had a shoulder surgery and worked his way back. He as only 32 when he retired, but he Radke was clear that he really wanted to spend time with his then-young kids. Perkins said that was important to him. I'm not exactly certain, but I feel like Perkins' daughters are now 8 and 10, or 9 and 11, or something like that. 

 

He said he just wanted to finish out that contract, and if the Twins had picked up his 2018 option, he would have stayed for that year. But he was consistent in saying that it would be his final contract.

I'm wishing good luck in their present endeavors for Buxton, Berrios, Sano et al.

It is a good time for Perk to hang up the cleats. I feel if he would have continued he would have been a shell of his former self and it would have been painful to watch. As far as the Twins hiring Perk in the front office in the future - when is it too many former Twins being hired? I think we are nearing the desired limit as I thought Falvine was going to bring an entirely new perspective.

Not really. I'm hoping that Nasser guys future endeavors go horribly.
