darin617 Verified Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Just looked at the Twins 40 man roster and noticed they have 2 open spots at the moment. I heard Glen Perkins has made a couple of minor league appearances and thought 1 might be for him in the possible near future. My question is who is the other spot for? I highly doubt it would filled from a trade. I say that because the Twins should be selling.Maybe someone get added to the 40 man and gets called up to help the pitching staff.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 It's an interesting idea. I don't think Perkins will take one of those spots in the immediate future, but he sure looks on track to come back some time in August. Also, I count 3 open spots on the 40 man, because you can add another one when Colon is mercifully laid to rest in his baseball grave.

darin617 Verified Member Posted July 29, 2017 Author Posted July 29, 2017 Anthony Recker got outrighted off the 40 man roster earlier today. Not sure why they have not removed him yet.
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Clearly they're trading for a reliever.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 The two spots came from Murphy and Recker. I don't think there come with in coordination with any plan specifically in the works. Recker doesn't need a spot. I am sure they knew he would be taken off the 40 when acquired. They found a trade partner for Murphy. I don't think he was moved to clear a spot but rather to acquire a player they see as more useful. Two spots open appears that give them some flexibility to trade Santana and take on more than one player that needs a 40 spot, but I don't think it was planned that way. If necessary, there are players that can be removed with minimal impact on the future. In a way it is nice to have the flexibility of two spots, but really it would be better to be so deep that it hurt to remove someone.
