I suppose because if one is a new boss in an organization, it's worth a bit of time getting to know one's employees capabilities before starting to can them.

In general, I agree. But, if we can't see anything from stats and even scouting (one of them was in CLE, I'd guess he had some knowledge of the Twins' abilities), not sure what they can/cannot learn in a few months they don't already know.

And to be clear, I am talking players here, not FO staff, which you have no real way to judge w/o observation.

My interpretation was always that they wanted to give marginal guys another shot after they establish different systems - coaching, shifts, better defensive catchers, better defense overall, to see if it is the pitcher or if they were put in bad positions by the previous front office.

They also wanted to reboot some younger guys, give other younger guys more reps, they were locked into some contracts (Hughes), they wanted to commit to May as a starter.

The May (and RP) injuries certainly did not help their plans at all.

Not only getting to know them, but resourcing them better and trying to put them in a better position to succeed. Same thing is happening with the front office.

Are you suggesting they haven't moved on quickly enough from some players now that it has been a couple of months of actual play? That can certainly buy.

There's no one to release him for. If they want guys to develop in Double-A -- a better league for development than Triple-A -- they should do just that.

the post was promote Romero to AAA then (edit) release (end edit) Pino - you and I are not making the same assumptions.

I feel that the pipeline to the bigs needs to be pulled through to jump start some additional replacements. They need to develop more younger talent this year to avoid repeating 2017's rotation caravan of scrap heap cast offs.

28 pitchers used and only a couple of them are "prospects". This has been year 6 of this mess. Gotta get the prospects through the pipeline more experience at higher levels, including high A pitchers experience in AA.

agreed, but Phil Hughes and Glen Perkins were never going to be ready in 2017 at all. They had to replace those two with high quality pitchers. Abject failure by the FO there.

Every other bad break and failure of pitching this year, I agree, "hind sight" and "let's see what we got" are very valid arguments for how the FO operated.

Yeah, the pitching staff + somehow being .500 = consternation. Still, let's keep this civil. That means refraining from making comments personal, implying that others know less than you, and short/glib responses.

Seems pretty clear a good chunk of the BP incompetence is trickle down from the starting staff. Santiago should not be a #3. Gibson and Jorge are bullpen arms at best. Mejia too probably.

I don't think the rotation is to blame for the bullpen woes. Other teams have rotation issues, but still find a way to have multiple quality arms in the pen. Starting pitching is in short supply most everywhere.

You can't build a staff from within. "The right way." You pay, and you trade. You don't say "don't sign relievers because you'll block all those minor league stars to be." Don't say "relievers are easy to find, don't spend on multi year contracts."

It's probably too late for this year, but I will lose all faith in Falvine if there aren't actual steps this winter to improve the pitching.

This (though maybe not "all"). As much as I love how quickly the Cubs rebuilt, their insistence on being pitcher averse is not exactly helping them right now....

Baseball is determined in July and August and you can already tell that the Twins yet again simply does not have the stamina to play well in these months and for that we sell. Don't try and have this illusion that we are still in it.

Many are clamoring to call up half of the aaa team but we simply can't do that. What we need to do is keep cycling one or two player in and out of aaa and hope someone one will pan out.

I grow so tired of the bullpen collapse year after year because of our starting pitchers not being able to go 6 innings and that our coach has no clue on how to manage either a bullpen or a rotation.

Trade some assets away and actually rebuild this team like the Royals and Astros have done.

I dont think anyone is clamoring for half of AAA. People just want change. I don't doubt Curtiss will be up sometime this summer
