So...its a big 'if' of course but 'if' we can stay with Cleveland going into August then I fancy our chances of competing till the end. Of course the Royals cannot be ruled out at this stage as they are also close by but at the moment its the Indians that we are competing with for top spot.

 

Look at the Indians schedule for August and it also seems their fans are worried as well. This is the month for the Twins to make a move. Thoughts?

Without looking at the Twins schedule, yeah, that looks rough. Cleveland would have to be playing really good baseball just to have a .500 record that month. Unless the Royals or Rays fall back to where they were expected to be, there's not a breath to take in that month. And only two off days in that stretch.

Here is the Twins August schedule as well. I think its fair to say our schedule is 'easier'?!

Nice. 10 games against the White Sox and Padres in August. That's a good opportunity to make some ground.

 

Also, I don't think I've ever seen a 5 game series before.

I'm sure there was one before under similar circumstances - make up double header. I remember in the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict riots, the Giants and Dodgers cancelled an entire series forcing them to play 3 consecutive double headers. Tom Candiotti was with the Dodgers at the time and the knuckleballer reportedly volunteered to pitch two games on one of the days. As I recall, he actually ended up pitching the game before and the game after.

The Indians just got done struggling mightily against the worst teams in the West divisions, and now they start a stretch of 17 games in 17 days leading into their tough August schedule. Hopefully the Twins can keep it close and make this a good race.
