Doomtints Verified Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Last year he threw fastballs and cutters.....and everything is hard. And right down broadway. Granted, Twins coaches have been telling pitchers to just throw strikes for years. But if you're throwing nearly every pitch right down the middle, you're going to get burned.
S. Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 How as the start yesterday?5IP, 6 hits, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 3 HR I wasn't paying a ton of attention, but I don't recall seeing any pitches above 91mph, and unless I'm mistaken, the Hammond field gun has been high by a MPH or two the last few years. So, he looked about how everyone besides the FO expected, I'd say. And Baltimore didn't exactly have their A squad out there by any means.

Still a week or two until I start to worry...
S. Verified Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 thanks for the update. Still a week or two until I start to worry...Yeah, I agree, though I really would like to see some velocity, even if he is getting mashed around. Thats definitely my biggest concern with Hughes is that he's going to be getting a bunch of starts tossing 90mph BP.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 The red flags are still very much present from 2 weeks ago. It's not getting much better. It's not going to be pretty watching him start games in April.

It's not going to be pretty watching him start games in April. He looks like the exact same guy. 5 IP, 4 ER. That's Hughes. At least you know what you're getting with him. How many times have we seen that box score. Not sure why they have him going 5 innings already. No one else is!
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 How as the start yesterday?Nick mentioned Hughes' start in his Report from the Fort. Outside of the homers, it was mostly an encouraging outing. And afterward he noted that two of the three came on changeups, a lesser pitch he’s been working on extensively this spring. His fastball showed some life, flashing 92 on the gun several times, and finally the righty started to generate some whiffs. He had struck out only one batter total in two previous Grapefruit League appearances. There was more, but since it's right over there ----> I'll let you check it out.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 2 innings - 9 hits, 6 ER, 2 moon shots today. http://m.c.lnkd.licdn.com/mpr/mpr/p/8/005/09a/3b8/39d88ce.jpg
