diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Anyone watching this new Netflix scifi/thriller? Two episodes in and it's pretty good.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Yeah, we're four in. We generally don't like police/lawyer procedural type shows but love sci-fi so we gave it a shot. So far, so good but I do think it's walking a fairly thin line between being clever and being ridiculous.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 well, so far at least it's unique in terms of sci-fi. Cannot argue with that. Have to admit that after watching a couple episodes that I was impressed.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Any final verdicts? I typically don't quit a season of a show if I get four in and I'm still on the fence, usually I'm committed by then.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Worked out so far. I have two episodes left but the season held up fairly well. The episode where the legal system plays a big role in one character's custody battle pissed me off because that's not even remotely how our system works - I have a huge problem with most TV shows and can't watch things like CSI or Law and Order and such - but the characters are mostly interesting, if not always likable. The Doctor is cute and there seems to be a lot of room for story lines to develop to keep it fresh and interesting. I think it could be a bit more upbeat but that's not what it's going for. But I'll watch the second season if they make it.That said, it's nowhere near as great as Stranger Things, which is the best thing I've seen on Netflix and just a tremendously great new show. (With one really dumb move by the cop that I'll forgive for keeping the show going).
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I think I'm four episodes in right now. It's decent. Not a fan of what they did to the FBI agent in the first episode but overall, I'm into most of the characters. I say "decent" because there hasn't been a lot to really grab me and suck me in yet, just a series of mostly entertaining moments strung together. Out of four episodes, the one I liked least was the mission with the other team. The opposing team leader seemed like a cartoon villain in a show that, to that point, had delivered mostly reasonable and believable characters. I can tell there's a big twist coming and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the director. Some kind of bombshell is going to be dropped on the team and rattle their belief system. The show has spent too much time telling us the team is a bunch of naive newbies.

As Brock said, some twists. It's definitely not your typical SciFi, which I kind of like.

And second on Stranger Things... That was a fantastic show.
snepp Verified Member Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I've watched it all the way through, concur with the "decent" take. It's not something I'd ever have an interest in re-watching, but it was good enough the first time around. Would watch into a further season.
