Pitchers:

Albers:  no

Chargois:  Has a future, but not now.  No

Dean:  no

Gibson:  50/50:  Maybe as a long reliever to eat up minutes in a blow out?

Kintzler:  Yes... He would be a nice extra arm for a playoff team.

Light:  no

O'Rourke:  no

Pressley:  Yes...see Kintzler

Rodgers:  Yes

Santana:  Yes.  He could be a very solid number 3rd or 4th starting pitcher for a playoff team.

Santiago:  50/50:  Like Gibson, not a starter, but maybe a long relief type who you do not let pitch in close games.

Tonkin:  no...

Wimmers:  He would go in the Hell no category with Albers, Dean, Light, and O'Rourke...

Catchers:

Suzuki:  Yes.  He would be an excellent backup...

Centeno:  Yes..  He actually is a solid backup.  He would be best to play once a week.

Infield:

Mauer:  Yes, but just as a bench guy or at best a platoon guy.  No way he is starting every day.

Dozier:  YES, and he would be an important bat for any team.

Polanco:  No..  Good player.. I like the kid, but at this time he is not a starter for a playoff team due to defense.

Plouffe:  Yes, but as a bat off the bench or a platoon DH.  He is not starting.

Escobar:  Yes, every team could use a Eduardo Escobar off the bench.

Sano: Yes, a DH...  Would not play every day though.

Outfield:

Grossman:  50/50:  Not a bad bat off the bench.  Not starting however.

Kepler:  no..Like Polanco, I like the kid, but he would not be starting for a playoff team and would be best served in Minors.

Rosario:  Yes... He would not be a starter, but would not be a bad 4th outfielder.

Schafer:  Ummm, no.....

DL:

Perkins:  If he was healthy, yes, but that is a big IF anymore

Santana:  Possibly yes..  A 25th man/PR type.

Boshers:  No

Hughes:  Not a starter for sure.

May:  Not reliable enough.. No.. However a smart team would have kept him as a starter.

Park:  No

The Twins have 2 players who would be regular lineup guys for good teams:  Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano.

The Twins have 1 pitcher who would be in a rotation for good teams:  Ervin Santana

The Twins have 3 healthy pitchers who could help a playoff team's bullpen:  Brandon Kintzler, Ryan Pressley, and Taylor Rodgers.

The Twins have a 3 players who could be bench players or at best platoon players:  Joe Mauer (our number 2 or 3 hitter), Trevor Plouffe (our number 4 or 5 hitter), and Kurt Suzuki (one of our best hitters).

We have nice young players but few have truly proven themselves as every day major league players yet.

It could get worse before it gets better yet.

Rosario and Grossman would be possibilities, but Kepler wouldn't? I don't get that.

I'd feel pretty comfortable if Ervin Santana were the starter for game 2 of a series as well.

In other news, the Twins aren't very good.

Yeah, if the roster resembled the 27 Yankees more one might reasonably expect a .500 record.

Wow! Any no one is currently grabbing at the opportunity to add Plouffe or Suzuki to their playoff runs.

Yes, this is soooooo good. How many Twins could find jobs with other teams if suddenly thrown into the free-agent marketplace. It is...so sad.

Not saying they're a great team by any stretch of the imagination but I think you're selling short on the position players. The Twins are one of the highest scoring teams in the league since the All Star break. If they had anything resembling a pitching staff a .500 record this half wouldn't be out of the question.

Plus, the Twins hitters don't have the luxury of fattening up their numbers by facing the Twins pitching staff.

The position players that score so many runs are also the ones playing defense.  The 2nd worst defense in baseball.

Jarvis Brown, Les Straker, Paul Sorrento... These guys all have World Series rings...

True they aren't all defensive wizards; but not everybody is a butcher, and even the ones that are can carve out a spot with a strong bat. The question was whether or not they could be part of a playoff team. I have a hard time believing a group of bench bats and minor league players can be one of the highest scoring teams in baseball for 2 months. There is talent on the roster beyond Dozier and Sano.

Why do you think Polanco's defense is bad?

I see criticism of Polanco from all sides that frankly baffles me.  Some people say his defense is bad, some people say he can't hit.  I'm wondering where this is coming from.  The Twins are bouncing him around but there is no visible reason for it.

Polanco is going to be an all-star, and on a playoff team he would probably already be showing that.
