AP reporting that Tyler Duffey sold 10% of his future earnings for 2.23 million.
Interesting. I'd never heard of this before but I guess this company has about a dozen other clients over Mlb,nfl and PGA.

I'm probably always taking it if I'm the player, considering the only way you end up "losing" on the deal is if you make more money than you'd ever need.

It is a crooked agency that should not be allowed to do business with MLB players.

Anxious Twins fans shown earlier making their way to Berrios' debut via public transportation...

The spirit of the late,   great Greg "Pappy"  Boyington likes this post.

And flying the Corsair.    And drinking beer.    And wrestling guys twice his size.    In that approximate order.

I eagerly anticipate his appearance in a 2025 30 for 30 special on broke former athletes.

Sheesh. Duffey signed for $267k and earned about $250k last season in a partial year. He shouldn't be hurting for money.

If I'm Sano or Kris Bryant I roll the dice and don't do it.

If I'm Tyler Duffey and my career is still a coin flip. Where do I Sign?

I'd take that 2.3 Million and I'd buy a Camel Farm. We don't have many Camel Farms in America so it has to be a growth industry.

I really want this game to happen today. I really want him to get his start today. I might even go to a bar and watch it on tv....doubtful, but possible.

It's virtual reality here, you can say you're there and tell us about it.

Ethics and wisdom aside,  I think it would be extremely interesting to see the sabermetric and actuarial alchemy that goes into deciding the figure that the company settles on to make the deal work for them.

Well we don't know that he's hurting for money.

Could be just insuring himself against a worst case scenario.

What are they doing that is crooked?

An outside group shouldn't be allowed to pay a MLB player outside of equipment contracts.

I'm just thinking about the neat things I could do with 2.3 Million Dollars.

Combination business that sells Hearing Aids and really loud Fireworks.

Finally, a company that has as much faith in Tyler Duffey as I do! And money to back it up!!

There could be a few legit reasons to do this - family emergency, for example - but I can't say I'm fond of the idea of a professional athlete betting against himself if he doesn't need the cash.

Rain delay theatre:  I thought I posted this rant here, but mistakenly did on another thread-- so...

Here's the deal:  It's Park's 1st year, Sano's 1st full year, Arcia may be in his 1st full year, and shows good signs, Rosario, Esco, Santana, getting into a 2nd year of starting.   Dozey is even learning to hit to right once in a while.  Bux and Kep should be honing their strokes in both their 1st year in AAA.   The 3 pitchers who just came up have a ton of promise, and of all those college relievers we've got stocked, one or two of them should shine enough to be up this year.

I don't mind a 70- win season, letting the kids cut their teeth.   I don't mind getting our brains beat in, as long as we have development happening.   I remember '82- horrible record, but wow, what a bunch of young'uns who flashed terrific play.   I remember that tease of success in '84, and another crappy record in '86, but you knew what was coming--  when '87 happened, it was no surprise to me.

This team's youngsters are giving me that same kind of mid-80s hope, and dammit, they've got to play.   The Twinks as they opened the season are not constructed to contend.   And this opening month so far bears that out in spades.  But there, in the dugout, sits Molly- and along side him sit the kids who should be prepping for playoff runs within the next couple of years.   And too often they sit.... and sit..... and sit.....

I want all 3 of those arms having a shot in the rotation- now.   If our hitters develop, and the pitchers are years behind them- forget about contending any time soon.

Why not?

I could see an argument that it's a poor business decision, but how is it crooked?

I wouldn't be surprised if we suddenly see a spike in steroid use because of this.

Maybe he just wants to make sure he's set up for life either way.

Again, if he loses value on this, it'll be because he made more money than anyone could ever need.

In what way would this encourage steroid use that the lure of 100 million dollar potential contract doesn't already?

What in the hell is with all the Gordon Lightfoot references these days? I mean, I love the guy but it's kind of freaking me out.

But did she mention my name?

Hey all, just checkin' in and deciding if I want to watch tonight's game.  Anybody know who's toeing the mound for the local nine tonight?

Joe Berry is just a joke based on some wacky posts, but Roberto Clemente deserved to be known by the name he wanted to be known by. :) Bob Clemente... weird. Americanization at a very low point.

Even better--  They called him "Bobby" for a good while.

Uh-oh, suddenly I'm in the mood for a mayo sandwich on Wonder Bread....
