A Losing Culture

If rewarding the manager of 99+96+96+92 with a tenured job is not a sign of a losing culture, I don't know what it is...

that same manager also won the division 6 times.  look at the whole picture not just the last 4 crappy seasons.

Regression was always possible with this team.  Pitching has outperformed what was expected, even here.  Team could well still be around .500, and this would be what I expected, with the push up coming next year.

Changing a culture takes time.  Winning games is the start of changing that culture.  The next step is doing it consistently, and expecting to do it.  Showing calm in the face of the storm.  It takes time to get yourself into those situations so that you can practice managing and overcoming them.

I will always root for the Twins to win.  Just because I believe they have sabotaged themselves in some ways does not change that.

You kind of have to accept this "losing culture" as a fact of life being a fan of Minnesota sports.  That's  not a complaint, it's a hurdle that we need to overcome every season and in every sport, something that makes the times we win, insanely more enjoyable due to the difficulty.

We get a great season from one of our MN teams from time to time and it's fun when that happens, but inbetween those times, we see many years, often decades, of bad play and personnel moves.

I always thought it had a lot to do with the lack of enthusiasm professional sports players have with coming to this area.  We don't have as much to offer as the big cities on the east coast or the lovely weather on the west coast.  We have hunting, fishing, and a chill group of people and have managed to get some excellent players that love those things, but it's few and far between to get some mega stars that enjoy all those activities.  So we deal with what we got and make the most of it when we can.

Not sure if that is true or not, but I can't think of a better explanation other than things "randomly" or "bad luck" seem to effect this area worse than the average and we have to wait longer than the average for championship teams to come along.  2 championships among all major professional sports since the 1954 Minneapolis Lakers.  With the Lynx, if you want to include them, that gets boosted up to 5 championships in 60+ years.  Lotta work to do.
