Ya, a great throw? He's supposed to be one of the fastest guys in the league.....this was a problem last year also, was it not?

Agreed about that- the throw was right on the bag with a quick release and good velo, and I think he was maybe safe, but still, he probably should have had that bag stolen easily.

He takes very short leads, or at least he did after he got on in his second at-bat.  Cole threw over to first a few times.  Buxton "dove" back into the base, by which I mean he basically turned and fell.  There was almost no lead at all.  Even when the pitcher went into his stretch he would only extend a half-step at most.

Pedro Florimon playing 3rd for the Pirates.  Tanner English beats out a grounder to third- scored an error on P-Flo, but could have been a hit.  He was flying.

 

Now Santana beats out a drag bunt.  Returns of the Piranhas.

Pedro Florimon playing 3rd for the Pirates.  Tanner English beats out a grounder to third- scored an error on P-Flo, but could have been a hit.  He was flying.

 

Now Santana beats out a drag bunt.  Returns of the Piranhas.

Santana beat that out because of a high throw. No?

Pitcher had a little trouble getting it out of his glove, throw was underhand and on line.  Not a perfect bunt, but pretty good.

 

Palka's HR was better.

Palka, 3 HR in 5 spring training at bats.  I know spring stats are largely meaningless, but that's a fun stat line!

It will be fun to watch his stat line in the minors, too.  He really crushed the ball today.  Fastball, outer part of the plate, got around on it quickly and pulled it out deep to right center.

Oh, you're right ... half watching again ... it was the throwing error in Tanner English's at bat.

Yeah, and even without the bad throw English might have beaten that out.

FWIW, in the 5 games since the last split squad day, the first pitcher to come out of the Twins pen already has been one with a spot locked up on the opening day roster.

 

Today, Brandon Kintzler was the first out of the Twins pen...

Could be.  Still seems Kintzler is in the mix, and Tonkin and O'Rourke aren't exactly stiff competition.

O'Rourke's ST-2016 stats:

1.35 ERA; .100 OBA; 0.60 WHIP
