joethastud Provisional Member Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I'm a TV junky. I get caught up in shows fairly easily. I think most people who had seen the previous 3 seasons of House of Cards will agree that the show is fairly spectacular, with a slight dip in overall quality for season 3, but still better than 98% of other TV. The finale of season 4 goes down with ONE MINUTE (Breaking Bad) and I forget the name of the episode, but where Pinkman and Walt steal a railcar as the best television I've ever seen. Its great. How they've tied these ridiculous storylines together and has me thinking, this actually happens doesn't it.... Simply amazing writing/acting/storytelling.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I'm a fan, but IMO season one was great, and the subsequent seasons fell off. Still good, but the storyline was better when he was a congressman on the make. Haven't seen any of season four yet, hope it's back to season one level. I'll still watch no matter what, season two and three were good, just not at the same level for me.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I'm glad someone is singing the praises of this season. I'm with Chief, I thought from about midway through Season 2 and all through Season 3 the quality of the show fell off pretty dramatically. I hope it finds the right tune again.
joethastud Provisional Member Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 Just my opinion, but I thought Season 1 and 2 were equals, with 3 being the out lire, but like I said, still better than 98% of other shows. Season 4 takes every bit of chaos in the first 3 seasons, adds to it, and brings them together. Its great. If you liked the show, you will love this season.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I'm with those that think season one is far superior. I liked season 2 and season 3 didn't turn me off from the show, but 1 was easily the best. I didn't know what the ulterior motive was in season one. It looked like it was ambition to get to the top, but I kept wondering if it was all based on revenge with the ultimate goal of ripping apart the government. Since his goal of getting to the top was revealed, the intrigue has been gone. Not the suspense, but the intrigue.
BeenHazy Provisional Member Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Just finished it. I thought it continued to be sub-par for the first half of the season. Very good, but not great. Then there's a major pivot and it's excellent the rest of the way, even while reaching new heights of implausibility and cynicism.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 The finale leaves your jaw on the floor for sure. Definitely had to wade through some season 2 and 3 mess to close up and tie a bow on, but then finished with a big bang. I watched the last episode twice catching little Easter eggs for the next season. I've got hope again for the series.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 This series needs to wrap up next season. Season 4 was ok, but they have definitely jumped the shark at this stage.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 This series needs to wrap up next season. Season 4 was ok, but they have definitely jumped the shark at this stage.I think they set that up, honestly. I could see it being one more season and done with the way the season ended.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 This may be a stupid question, but is there anything pressing that I need to watch at the end of season 3 before I jump into season 4? Or can I skip the final 4-5 episodes of season 3 and jump right in? I'm in agreement with a lot on this thread that season 1 was brilliant, season 2 was great, and season 3 slipped in quality.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 If you want to see how the Democratic Primary starts to shape up you'd probably want to watch it, if that's not a big issue for you, you might just want to watch the season three finale or at least the last ten minutes or so as that's pretty much what drives the first half of season four. I'm halfway through episode six now which I'm fairly confident will mark a distinct shift in focus and plot for the second half. I also agree the show should start to wrap up. I enjoy it, but this is the kind of program that really needs a scheduled end date or it will spiral out of control, if it hasn't already.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 We just finished - meh. Guess it sets up their downfall, but it better happen and conclude next season. The show has definitely passed it's better days.
